He groaned, adjusting himself as he slid out behind me. “Now I’m going to have that image in my brain. Maybe you should come with me.”

“Boss.” Donny held the door open. “Miguel is waiting for you in the office. Antonio and Vincenzo are already with him.”

“Bella.” Massimo turned toward me. “I’ll be up soon.” He pulled me against him, his mouth finding mine.

“Be safe.” While I knew it wasn’t goodbye, my heart stuttered a little. Fear would always be present in our relationship, but love would conquer that every time. “I’ll be waiting…” I turned toward the front of the club and called out over my shoulder, “Naked.”

“Fuck me.” I heard him groan as I walked around the smooth bar top.

Carlisle was leaning against the edge. “Madison, you’re here.”

I stopped and leaned across the counter. “Give me a hug.” It was an awkward embrace, but I needed it. The last time I saw him, we left on not so good terms. I was pissed he left me alone on the tarmac with Antonio.

“How are you?”

“Me, I’m good. How about you? Everything okay?”

“You could say that.” I held up my hand, proudly displaying the glittering diamond on my left hand.

“No shit! You said yes?”

“Yep, looks like I’ll be around for a while.”

“I’m happy for you. He’s a good man, but you make him better.”

“We make each other better. Now, I’d love to catch up, but I’m exhausted. How about lunch tomorrow? I want to know what’s been going on since I left.”

Carlisle nodded, bidding me farewell as I walked to the elevator.

Entering the code, I waited for the doors to open. Pressing my back to the steel wall, I closed my eyes and pictured my future. Massimo was the best thing to happen to me in a long time. When the doors opened, I took a deep breath and stepped inside our place. Even the words trickling in my mind felt odd. This was no longer his, but ours. Stripping off my clothes as I made my way to the bathroom, I couldn’t help but smile. Massimo would see my things when he entered the apartment.

Hopefully, the notion I was completely naked would spur him into moving faster.

MASSIMO

Miguel’sthick accent rumbled through the room as Donny and I walked in.

“We have a problem.”

Vincenzo was seated in a chair as Antonio stood with arms folded behind him against the wall.

“We do, but I can assure you that it wasn’t us.”

“I’ve come to realize that in talking with Vincenzo. Besides, he was in Italy with your familia. My condolences for your loss.”

“Thank you, but this means we have a problem that affects us both.”

“Yes, my sister…” His voice faltered. “My sister was a beautiful creature. She did not deserve the death she was given. We must work together to snuff out this threat.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t someone inside the Sureños?”

“No, I’ve taken care of any uncertain loyalties. The only ones who remain are loyal to my cause.”

“Why my restaurant? I don’t understand.” Vincenzo’s tone was bitter with hate.

“I think someone is trying to flush you out of hiding, my friend,” Miguel sneered. “You are The Lama, are you not?”
