"Can I help?" Crystal asked but her mother shook her head.
"Just show Adam your room or something," Mariam said with a mischievous smirk.
"What? No!" Crystal protested.
"If she won't show you, then I will," Ruby said as she held my hand and pulled me along.
As we left the room, I noticed Hannah staring at me.
"Let's talk." She mouthed before turning to join her sister-in-law in the kitchen.
"I said don't go to my room!" Crystal yelled as she followed closely behind us.
Ruby opened the door and I was forcefully hit with an image of cuteness.
The room was painted pink and decorated like it was meant for a ten-year-old Disney princess fangirl. There were stuffed Hello Kitty dolls as well and a lot of teddy bears.
"Wow," I scratched my chin, "Well, this is something."
I turned to her and she was pouting.
"This is just how I decorated when I was a kid. I'll have you know my tastes as an adult have changed tremendously," she stated.
"I don't hate the room," I said, "it's really cute. Now I know if we ever have kids, I won't spend a lot of money buying them toys."
"If we have kids?" Her eyes lit up as she exchanged glances with Ruby.
Ruby seemed excited and nodded repeatedly.
"Adam, I have something to tell you,” she said.
"Dinner!" Mariam called.
"I'm listening," I said as I held her hand.
"After dinner," she said, "Mom can get a bit cranky if we don't get seated early."
"Alright then," I smiled and followed her.
At the dinner table, I sat opposite Hannah. She didn't glare at me or anything, but I still felt uncomfortable.
If she had shown some sort of emotion towards me, it would have helped a lot more than her silence.
"So, you two work in the same hospital?" Mariam asked.
"More like I work for him," Crystal replied, "He owns the place."
"You must be some kind of millionaire then," Ruby said.
"Billionaire," Hannah corrected.
"Can I get gifts?" Amber perked up as soon as she heard ‘billionaire.’
"Sure, what would you like?" I asked.
"No fair! I want some gifts too!" Ruby demanded.
"It's alright. I can get you both something, as soon as my date stops glaring at me," I said. I turned to my side, "Right? Crystal?"
