It was a shock to me, but one I enjoyed.
As my hand tightened on hers, I vowed I was not going to let her slip through my fingers anymore… at least not that day.
I helped her to her feet and let go of her hand, though normally I'd hold on to it.
But as I recalled what she had said about her being different from the desperate girls I surrounded myself with, I let her go.
“What’s the matter, Dr. Hunt?" She asked with a smile, "You're not going to pounce on me? Intimidate me? Tease me?"
As she asked the questions, she got closer and closer, even standing on her toes to get close enough to my face to smirk.
Her blue eyes challenged me.
I can't believe I'm losing my composure to this girl.
I placed my hand on her forehead and gently put her down on her feet.
"You're one confusing little girl," I said.
"Little girl? I assure you that I'm thirty years old," she said in a serious tone.
Thirty years old? Her?
"You're joking," I said.
She shrugged and walked past me with her hands behind her back, "Ask for my files from Catherine when you have the chance."
"But still, you look pretty young for someone who's supposed to be that age," I said.
"Thank you," she said with a smile, "By the way, thank you for the research papers."
"Were they to your liking?" I asked with a smirk.
"They exceeded it. When I was in medical school, I heard about your work. You're a living legend and a prodigy. We knew there were wealthy doctors, but a billionaire and a genius?" She said in awe as she stopped walking, "You're really amazing."
"Th…thank you," I said softly.
I've heard it a thousand times.
Countless applause and praises, awards and recognitions too numerous to mention. I had even met the president and other world leaders. I had gotten tired of hearing how amazing I was, but why…
Why did hearing her say it make me so happy?
I tried my best to keep a straight face, but I could tell I was grinning.
"Did hearing that make you that happy?" she teased.
"It did. I don't know why but it did," I said.
"Oh," the smile on her face switched to surprise.
"Can I be honest with you for a second, Crystal?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"Ever since that kiss, I haven't been the same. Even when you spoke to me this morning, I've never heard any man or woman talk to me that way," I said and walked past her, "It was humiliating, but at the same time, I enjoyed it."
I stopped and turned to look at her, "You really are a different girl."
