"Thank you for the compliment," I said.

"This is stupid," Adam muttered.

We spent more time with these kids, and I got to meet other kids as well.

It was a relaxing experience, and seeing Adam in a different light was refreshing in a way.

Who knew he could be this gentle and kind?

Come to think of it, when we first met, he was already gentle and kind enough to listen to me.

I was just worried when he had kissed me because of how much I had liked it. And through that one kiss, he was able to turn my world upside down.

It was sheer luck that I had been able to physically resist his charms for this long, but I knew that I couldn't hold out much longer.

"Let's go then," he said to me as the children received their treats.

"Are you going home?" I asked.

"No, back to the office," he replied with a yawn, "You?"

"Same."

"Let's walk together then," he said as he offered me his hand.

Maybe I should have put on the tough girl act a little longer.

But I didn't.

I accepted his hand without thinking twice about it.

As he slowly tightened his hand around mine, I knew it was too late.

But…the funniest thing was…I didn't really mind.

Chapter seven

A Lonely Man

Adam

I didn't expect that at all.

I had only wanted to bond with the kids as usual, but to think that she would have been there as well, witnessing me in such a childish state.

There was no way I was going to escape or revert back to being a strong alpha male in her eyes.

Even when we played with the kids, she treated me like one of them.

It was infuriating, humiliating and…I enjoyed every bit of it.

Everything was different with Crystal.

I could see Amanda or Hannah laughing with other men, and I wouldn't even give a rat's ass.

But just remembering how that man and his mother had made Crystal laugh was enough to annoy me, since she hadn’t shown emotion with me in my office.

I didn't understand what was going on anymore.
