He Did It Again

“So, you’re not coming back anytime soon?” I asked him over the phone.
“Unfortunately, no, not for another week,” Harold replied.
“Is that so?” I sighed.
“What’s the matter? Missing me already?” he teased.
“Yeah, I do,” I smirked, “So much!”
“All right, no need to be weird about it. I just need another week or so,” he said, “Maybe we can hang out when I’m back, have dinner or something.”
“Yeah, that’ll be fine,” I said.
“All right then,” he said.
“Uhm, Harold?” I hurried.
“Yeah?”
“No, it’s nothing; never mind,” I interrupted myself.
“You sure? You got me curious now,” he said.
“It’s really nothing. Just medical stuff, but I’ll ask someone around,” I replied.
“I don’t really get why you can’t tell me, but okay,” he responded, “Just take care of yourself, okay? Bye.”
“I will. Bye,” I replied.
I put the phone down and leaned back into my chair.
My eyes scanned the mini-office I was assigned to work in before settling on the diagram of the heart.
I placed my hand on my chest then took a deep breath and exhaled.
“Nothing,” I said.
I didn’t feel it with Harold.
I didn’t understand why he didn’t make my heart skip when I was so comfortable with him.
My eyes continued to scan the office and settled on the diagram of the human face.
Hiseyes had a piercing look, an arrogant one that looked down on everyone around him. Even when he apologized, I could tell he wasn’t going to stop at the apology.
From what I’d heard, men like that don’t give up that easily.
Besides…I focused on the diagram’s lips next.
I recalled Adam’s lips crashing into mine and there was a tug on my heart.
“No, seriously, why is this happening? Whyhim?” I asked no one in particular.
My fingers pressed against my lips, and I kissed them.
