He took a seat as well and kept quiet while watching me work.

"What?" I frowned.

"You look beautiful when you're pissed," he said, "But I'd prefer if you smiled."

I flashed him a smile before returning to my scowl.

I didn't talk to him until it was time for lunch. As promised, I took him out on the lunch date. While he made his choice, I realized I had left my purse back in the office.

On my way back I bumped into someone, and the person's files dropped.

It was Adam, of course. He had his glasses on and picked up the files. I helped him.

"Crystal…" he tried to call me but I walked past him.

It was frustrating. Just seeing him reminded me of how much this guy had messed up my heart.

It was beating out of control even when I tried to ignore him.

Chapter twelve

He Has Never Been Ignored

Adam

She was ignoring me.

She had left my house without telling me, scaring me half to death.

I wasn't even sure if she had breakfast or anything, and I thought something must have happened to her. But there she was being flaunted by Harold, who was acting like she was his property or something.

I mean, it's been a few chapters since I asked this, but who the hell did they think they were?

Harold calling her, 'My Crystal.'

Crystal herself dismissing my invitation.

What the actual hell?

I watched the two of them retreat to their office after she had finished bashing me to bits and ignoring me.

I swallowed my shame and retreated to my office.

I sat down and thought about how I would punish her afterwards for the humiliation.

"That's quite a scowl you have on your face," Catherine said as she dropped my files on the table, "Your appointments for today and tomorrow. Some politicians and celebrities. You know the usual."

"It's been a while since I've done some doctor work around here," I sighed as I read through the document.

"Is something wrong?" she asked.

"What raises the question?" I asked.

"You've been acting different. No more girls around you. I haven't even seen Amanda in a while," she replied, "And you're more lost in thought these days. The only thing you seem interested in is asking about Dr. Richards."

As annoyingly perceptive as ever.

"It's nothing really; a man has days like these," I shrugged.
