I nodded my head, nibbling my lip nervously as they both stared at me with their intense silver eyes. So far, they’d barely spared poor Callie a glance, and I was starting to suspect they weren’t here for her after all.
“What do you do on the ship?” I asked, trying to make polite small talk.
“We are engineers,” Zarek replied. “We make sure everything runs smoothly on these trips.”
“Well, we are very grateful for that,” Callie said, the words coming out with a small giggle. “Aren’t we, Brooke?”
I nodded my head as I watched the two gorgeous aliens. They both turned to smile politely at my new friend before they turned their attention back to me.
“We’re just about to take a break,” Riven said to me. “How would you like to join us? We thought we would go and relax in the pool.”
“Oh!” I squeaked. “I love swimming and was looking forward to checking out the pool. So sure! Are you going to come too, Callie?” I asked, turning to look at my new friend.
She was grinning at me, but she shook her head. “I’m really tired, so I think I’m going to lie down in my room for a while.”
“Oh, okay,” I said, feeling slightly relieved I’d get some time alone with the two big guys, even though I hadn’t wanted her to feel left out. “If you’re sure?”
Callie chuckled and nodded. “I’m very sure.”
“I just need to go back to my room to get my swimsuit,” I said to the Klurian men. “So, shall I meet you at the pool in, say, twenty minutes?”
“That sounds good,” Riven replied. “Don’t keep us waiting, though.” He winked at me, setting off a flurry of excited butterflies inside my stomach, then they turned and walked away.
When they were gone, Callie looped her arm through mine and we started walking back to the living quarters.
“They seemed to really have it bad for you!” she squealed, sounding even more excited than I felt. “Maybe one of them is your mate! Or, judging by the way they were both drooling over you, maybe it’s both of them!”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “I doubt that very much. What are the chances that I’d end up meeting my mate on the flight to the planet? Very small, I’d imagine. And I doubt anybody would be lucky enough to get two mates.”
“You never know!” she said. “Just because most people only have one partner on Earth, that doesn’t mean other planets are going to be like that.”
I shrugged. “I guess you’re right. But I’m just going to look at this as a bit of fun before I get to Klurux and maybe settle down with my real mate.”
With a grin on my face, I tugged Callie into my room before opening the suitcase, which had been sitting unopened on my bed.
“Which one of these do you think I should wear? This one?” I asked while holding up a modest, dark blue, one-piece swimsuit for a few seconds. “Or this one?” I put down the one-piece and picked up one part of a skimpy red bikini in each of my hands.
The big grin on her face told me the answer before she said anything. “If you’re planning to have fun with them, you should definitely go with the red bikini. With the way they were staring at you, that will drive them crazy.”
“Yeah, you’re right,” I said, giving a firm nod of my head.
“I’ll leave you to get ready,” Callie said, coming closer to give me a quick hug. “Have fun!”
She slipped out of the room, and I got changed into the little red bikini as quickly as I could. Then I slipped on a white towelling robe over the top and picked up a spare towel before going in search of the swimming pool.
