“That sounds like Bear.”
“Um hmm,” I agreed, then spotted Dimitri heading my way. “Alright, gotta go. Dimitri’s here to take me back to the clubhouse.”
“Call if you need anything else,” he told me.
“Of course.”
When he got back to me with the info, it would be time for the next plan.
These fuckers didn’t realize the hornets’ nest they stepped on. I recognized the vehicle, and they were going down.
I didn’t care if we used to do business with them. They were done. I was going to paint their world red.
This time, we wouldn’t spill our own blood.
ChapterTwenty-Eight
BRAX
The two bottlesof beer were placed on the table before me, and shortly afterwards I was met by a man whose presence was feared by a great many people.
Including myself.
Right now could very well be the very last moment of my life. Death by poison, or death by beer bottle. He could even kill me with his bare hands. I had to trust he cared more about his sister’s feelings for me than the fact that I was a cop, or was planning on quitting my life as a cop.
For all I knew, he saw me as a fox in the henhouse.
“So, you think you’re good enough for my sister?” Erik asked.
So maybe death was off the table.
“I’m going to try.”
He took a swig of his beer, then told me, “That’s not good enough.”
“You and I both know that your sister wouldn’t give me the time of day if she didn’t want to. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that she doesn’t have a reason to change her mind.”
“Good answer.”
I nodded.
“So, let’s talk about your interest in joining the Reapers.”
“I know it seems suspicious,” I told him.
“Damn right it does,” he agreed.
“I can promise you my reasons are sound.”
“Let’s talk over a particular scenario,” he said as he clasped his hands around the beer bottle in front of him. “A month from now, my sister tires of your ass and drops it like a two-dollar hooker. Would you pack up and go back to the force with your tail between your legs, or would you buck up and continue your role with the Renegades?”
“The reason I want to leave the force isn’t completely because of your sister,” I told him. This had been a long time coming. Maybe it was the hit taken out on me by that dirty cop. I didn’t know exactly what the catalyst was. “I’ve known your sister a lot longer than she would care to admit. Based on some things I heard while I was undercover, I can only assume the things the Reapers are involved in.”
“Carry on, but I want to come back to how long you’ve known my sister for.”
“Coming back from undercover hasn’t been what I hoped it would be. It’s been difficult for me to let go of the things I’ve seen, maybe a few of the things I had to do to solidify my place in their world.” I took a deep swig of my beer and levelled him with a stare. “As for your sister, I bet you know exactly how long I’ve been in her life,” I challenged.
“You’re right, and I should have killed you for it a couple of years ago. You’re lucky she was already eighteen when you let your dick out of your pants for the second time.”
