“The first night I was there, he r-raped me.”

Fucking bastard, he said in his mind. “How old were you, Baby?”

“I’d just turned sixteen.”

Jesus fucking Christ. “I’m so sorry, Baby.”

“It might have been easier if I hadn’t been a virgin.” She looked up at him. “Don’t you think?”

Lord, give me strength. “It’s possible. You would have known what good sex felt like before he did that.”

He didn’t know how much he could take while holding his emotions in. He never wanted to kill anyone as much as he did that monster.

Chapter Ten

Cat lay against Macy’s chest. She had no energy at that moment, and she knew more questions were coming. She felt Macy kiss the top of her head.

“What else did that bastard do?” Macy asked.

She could hear the tension in his voice and looked up at him.

“I don’t ever talk about it. No one needs to know the things he did.”

“What about the cages set you off?”

She felt like she needed to vomit but swallowed several times to prevent it from spewing. “He would put me in a small one when he went out. I could hardly move, so just looking at one made me feel sick.”

“Have you spoken to anyone about your ordeal?” he asked.

She shook her head.

“How long were you with him?”

“Close to four years.”

“And you’re twenty-four now?” Macy asked.

She nodded.

“What have you been doing for the last four years?”

“I hid for several months. I worked in the back of a restaurant. It was the maid’s, the one that helped me, second cousin or something. The owner let me stay in a back room. It wasn’t much, but it was so much better than where I’d been.”

“Where’d you go next?

“This man came into the back room and looked down at me. He saw something that made him angry because he scowled, nodded to the owner, and took me home with him.”

“Who?”

“Kane. I’m still not sure how he found me or why. I never asked, but I think the owner called the guy in to take care of me. I wasn’t healthy at all, and I still had marks all over me, so I knew the restaurant owner was worried about me. He just said he wanted to help.”

“Was Kane a good guy?”

“Yes. The best.” She didn’t understand why Macy stiffened and looked up at him. He had no expression on his face, and she didn’t know if that was good or bad.

“What happened with him?”

“I lived in Kane’s club. He has bedrooms and then his own personal apartment on the top.”
