“That’s too much,” she said.

“I’ll eat what you don’t,” Macy said.

Cat nodded.

“Then I’ll take four twelve-inch Deli Clubs with everything on them.”

“I just want lettuce and mayo.”

He nodded and pressed a kiss to her temple. They stood off to the side as they waited for their order. Cat had to bite her lip at the different looks they got. The men always seemed tense, while the girls were a bit scared, but Macy was too much man not to ogle.

They had their name called. Macy grabbed the sack of sandwiches and chips and her hand and headed back to the truck. She noticed he never gave her any space and in fact, had a hand on her the whole time.

On the way back to the club, she tried to decipher how he was making her feel, but several of the emotions were ones she’d never felt before, and she didn’t know if that was a good thing or not. She’d have to wait and see.

Chapter Eight

Macy sat on a bucket as the guys and Cat ate lunch. He loved watching Cat’s expressions and how the guys teased her.

She’d eaten over half of her sandwich before automatically handing it to him to finish. It felt like something they’d done a hundred times before.

Nick and Janessa walked in as they were finishing eating.

Macy studied Nick, and he loved to see contentment on his face. Macy stood and pulled Cat up to stand beside him. “Have you met either of these guys?” he asked Cat. She shook her head. “Hey, Nick and Janessa, I want you to meet our employee, Cat.”

He grinned when he heard Cat snort before she held her hand out. “Since I’ve lived here my whole life and I’ve never seen you, I’m guessing you just moved here?” Janessa asked.

“Yes. It hasn’t been long,” Cat said.

“We want to have a party at our house, and I want you to come. I’ll introduce you to my friends. You’ll love them, and it will be good for you to have women to talk to since you’re surrounded by men all day.”

“I would love that.”

“Good. It’s this Friday.”

“What can I bring?” Cat asked.

“The women usually bring desserts, but since it’s your first time, I just want you to be there.”

Macy saw the two women stand off to the side talking and was pleased to see Cat with a smile on her face. He wanted to see more of them because when he looked at her sometimes, he saw a look of confusion, desperation, and loneliness he wanted to extinguish.

“Hey, Nick, who’s the guy you’ve used in the past that can gather information?” Macy asked quietly so the girls didn’t hear.

“I’ll text you his name and number.” Nick tipped his head toward the women. “Are you thinking about getting her checked out?”

“Not getting her checked, I just don’t know anything about her. None of us have been able to get information about her past.”

“Do you think she’s in trouble?” Nick asked.

The four other guys shook their heads.

“No, it’s more like we can’t help her if we don’t know what’s happened to her,” Macy said. “I got a look at her back last night, and Jesus, she had so many scars it made my guts twist.”

“Is there a possibility she’s a masochist?” Nick asked.

Macy shook his head. “I’d bet my truck she isn’t.”

Link nodded. “I agree. She’s so skittish, and she’s trying to bury her submissive personality, and it’s hard for her.”
