Page 97 of Worth the Risk

“What can we do for you, Leo? Did you come by to save face, finally man up and be a father to the girl you abandoned? You know, the one you described as fucking up your life and had every right to leave?”

I realize what she’s talking about. That night in the bar when she slapped me, I thought she meant Kylie and Nash, but she was talking about Kylie and Riley.

Our conversation makes more sense to me now.

“I thought you were talking about Kylie and Nash. I would never talk about a child… possiblymychild… that way. I would have taken care of my responsibility.”

“Yeah, well there’s a million reasons to believe otherwise.”

One more thing to figure out—where that million came from because it sure as hell didn’t come from me. But first, I need to speak to Kylie and see if Riley is truly my child. “Are Kylie and Riley here?”

She rolls her eyes but allows me to enter. “Kylie,” she calls out.

Moments later, Kylie comes down a hallway and stiffens when she sees me. She’s dressed in jeans and a tank top that shows off her magnificent breasts.

“We need to talk,” I say.

“The time for talking was five years ago.” She crosses her arms on her chest, drawing my attention to her breasts. I glance up at her face again, and she raises an eyebrow at me.

She caught me.Like I give a fuck.

“May we please have a little privacy?” I ask Sierra.

She checks with Kylie, who nods.

“Treat her with respect, or you’ll have me to deal with.” Grabbing her purse and keys off the counter, she leaves, slamming the door behind her.

“What is it you want, Leo?”

“Is Riley mine?” I gauge her reaction to my question. Her eyes shoot daggers at me, a little pissed I asked.

How could she not expect me to ask?

“Of course she is. Contrary to what you assumed, I didn’t sleep with Nash. If you would have just talked with me, you would know that.” She throws her hands on her hips.

She’s not the only angry person.

I don’t want to talk about Nash. That will be rehashed later.

“Why does Kason think I know about Riley, and why is he telling me I paid you off with a million fucking dollars? I never gave you money, Kylie.”

Her eyes widen. I’m not sure why she’s shocked by my question since I had no clue about Riley or the million dollars until today.

“Because you did, and you knew I was pregnant with her. Why are you acting like this is news to you? Hell, you even said we fucked up your life.” She lowers her voice at the end and looks behind her, for what, I’m not sure.

“I know you’re saying I knew, but I’m telling you I didn’t. And I didn’t meanherwhen I said about fucking up my life. I thought Sierra and I were talking about what happened with you and me.” I raise my voice. “I would fucking know if you told me you were pregnant, and I would never insult a child that may be mine.”Why is she making me out as the bad guy?

She’s a little taken aback by my voice but recovers quickly. Taking her phone out of her purse that’s sitting on the counter, she heads into the living room, and I follow her. For someone who had a child, she had no problem losing the baby weight. In fact, her body may be even more toned now.

Let’s not get me started on her ass in those jeans.

Focus, Leo.Don’t allow her or her body to suck you back in.

She sits on the chair, and I sit on the sofa. Probably best to be sitting this far apart from each other. She plays around on her phone, and when she finds what she wants, she hands her phone to me. I take it, seeing an email on there of her telling me about the pregnancy.

I scroll to the top of the email to check the date. The email is almost five years old. She wrote to me, but I’ve never seen it. I would have remembered.

I give her back her phone and pull mine out to check my personal emails. I search for anything from a KSullivan and find nothing. It’s not there.
