EVIE

We’re last to the party again. But this time, it wasn’t because we were fucking like bunnies but because Alex FaceTimed his dad to thank him for the watch, and then Zay overheard his voice and refused to let either of us go until we told him every single thing we’d done here since we last spoke… two days ago.

We should probably have been grateful that Blake was out, or we’d have been stuck there even longer while the others enjoyed themselves out by the pool.

“Don’t even start,” Alex says, when we step out onto the deck to find Toby, Nico, and Theo smirking at us. “There were no orgasms involved.”

“Yeah right, I’ll believe that when I see it.”

“Bro, you’re more than welcome to watch it—” Brianna slaps him as she and Jodie join them.

“Stop being a pig.”

“Hey, Demon. Everything okay?” Toby asks when he spots tears in Jodie’s eyes.

My heart sinks that while we’ve all been enjoying ourselves here, she’s been suffering in silence.

“Jessie called me,” she blurts, her tears spilling over.

“You spoke to him?” Toby asks, looking as invested and concerned as Jodie.

“Yes. It was so good to hear his voice. To know that he’s okay.”

She sobs and Toby pulls her into his arms, pressing his lips to the top of her head.

“That’s all she would have wanted,” she whispers. “For him to be okay.”

“I know, Demon. And he will be.”

Toby smiles at us, his own relief palpable, and we leave them to it, walking deeper into the garden where another huddle of people are.

Multiple sets of eyes look up, but mine lock with one familiar set I haven’t seen for a few weeks.

“Hey, Braveheart. How’s it going?” Reid asks with mirth dancing in his eyes.

He’s spent quite a bit of time with Brianna and Nico this week, but this is his first visit to the house.

“Yeah, it’s good. Your hometown is pretty awesome.”

He laughs. “If only. Our hometown is about forty minutes that way, and it’s fucking terrible.”

“Well, you know what I mean.”

A flash of blonde hair appears before a woman wraps her arms around his waist and smiles at me.

“You must be Evie,” she says softly. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“All good, I hope,” I tease.

“Hell, yeah. There aren’t many people in the world that would have propositioned Reid like you did.

Alex stiffens against me.

“I didn’t proposition him like that; calm down,” I whisper, making both Reid and his girl laugh.

“I’m Alana, by the way.”
