“Then she died doing something she wanted to do.” He let go of my hand. “Thank you for coming.”
“Thank you for finding me.” I smiled. “It means a lot.”
“I’ll reach out to Romero once things settle down and I’ll tell him where her plot is so you can visit her whenever you want.” He nodded. “She would love the company.”
“That would be wonderful.” I hugged him. “You raised a strong, amazing woman.”
When he let go of me, his eyes were wet, but he smiled through the tears before turning away.
“I’m ready to go now,” I said.
“Good.” Rocco glanced at his phone. “Someone is waiting for you outside.”
“Who?”
“Let’s go and see.”
I followed Rocco down the hall and to the back room where we entered. When he opened the door, the sunlight poured in, blinding my sight. I reached in my bag and took out my sunglasses as Joey and Sam walked me to the car.
“This way, Lu,” Sam said as he led me to the SUV in front of the one we came in.
“Why is Romero’s car here?” I asked.
When Joey opened the door, Romero pushed his sunglasses up, revealing his stunning green eyes. “Hello, butterfly.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Taking you on an adventure.”
Chapter 12
Romero
Even with her sunglasses on, I could see she had been crying. I nodded at Rocco. I had already thanked him in a text when I told him I was outside waiting for Lu. Maybe having another brother wasn’t such a bad thing.
“Have a safe trip.” Rocco headed to his waiting car.
“Thank you for everything,” Lu called after him.
“Get in.” I scooted over to make room for her. “We have to get to the airport.”
“Where are we going?” After she climbed into the SUV, Joey closed the door behind her. “Hi, Salvi.”
“Hey, Lu.” Salvi waved at her from the driver’s seat before pulling onto the street.
“Why are we going to the airport?”
“I have some business to deal with in Italy, so I thought it was a good opportunity for us to get away.”
“We’re going to Italy?” Her adorable little nose crinkled. “Right now?”
“Right now.”
“I don’t have anything with me.”
“I grabbed some stuff for you, but you can buy whatever you want.” I motioned over her black, funeral dress. “I threw some comfortable clothes in your bag for the flight.”
“Thank you.” Her facial expressions indicated she was still confused. “How did you get us on a flight so fast?”
