“She did, but that was more my speed. The club, the crowds, the cake. Tonight, she deserves a low-key evening with just the two of us.”
“You’re such a fucking romantic, who knew?” He laughed. “I’ll be at the club looking for someone to fuck. No romance.”
“You’re a real prince.” I threw a pen at him.
“Maybe I just haven’t found my queen yet.”
“When you do, you’ll know and your life will never be the same again.”Trust me.

As we drovedown the back road on the way to our house, Luciana couldn’t stop staring at the charm that dangled from the bracelet I had given her a couple of months ago. Tonight, I added her first charm. A diamond butterfly.
“Do you like it?” I took her hand.
“I love it.” She squeezed my hand. “You didn’t have to get me anything. The party last night. Dinner tonight. It’s too much.”
“Not when it comes to you.” I kissed her knuckles. “I want to give you the world.”
“You already have.” She glanced out the window. “Is that Joey in front of us?”
“Yeah.” I motioned toward the car behind us. “I have someone following too. You’re precious cargo.”
She tightened her hold on my hand.
“What’s wrong?”
“Salvi is with us.” She pointed to the driver’s seat. “Joey is in front of us and a guard behind us. What’s going on?”
“Nothing, I’m being cautious.”
“If we have an entourage, who is guarding the house?”
“There are a few guys at the house.” I ran my finger along her wrist. “But, they don’t have much to do tonight since we’re not home.”
“When can I get Jag back?” She bit her lip.
“We’ve talked about this.”
“No, you’ve talked about it and I listened.”
“That’s the way I like it.”
“Romero?”
“Lu, Jag is not a good fit for you.” With some factors of my business being out of my control, I wasn’t taking any chances with my wife. “I’ll find someone else for you.”
“I don’t want someone else.” She let go of my hand and placed hers in her lap, which infuriated me, but I didn’t want to fight with her on her birthday. “I need to go to the library tomorrow. I want Jag to take me.”
“No.”
“No, Jag can’t take me or I can’t go to the library?”
“Jag can’t take you, but Salvi can.”
“He is supposed to protect you, right, Salvi?”
Salvi glanced at me in the rearview mirror, but he knew better than to say anything, or he would go a few rounds with me.
