Later on, I went to check my bedroom upstairs. It was cozy, with a big bed and pretty lamps. There was a small walk-in closet attached to it, which made me feel even more excited.
I took a swig of the red wine in my hand and then carelessly walked over to the window just to check the view I had. To my surprise, I discovered I could see the neighbor’s backyard, which was currently empty except for his cute little pet running around. I could also see through a big window into a room that looked like a large home office.
Right, that’s a nice idea, I thought. I’m going to convert one of the bedrooms here on the second floor to my home office.
Suddenly, I saw a shadow pass through the window. Someone was pacing back and forth. Peering closer, I could see that it was that surly-looking guy who was admittedly drop-dead gorgeous. He had an incredible physique and a smoothly chiseled face with some stubble from a beard.
I watched as he took his place behind his desk and buried his face in his computer.
“I wonder what he does…” I whispered. He looked mysterious and geeky in a very alluring way. I felt like I wanted to get to know him more.
Suddenly, I heard the music blaring louder from the poolside of my new house, mixing with the chatter and laughter.
The man next door, who was probably in his mid-thirties, stood up. He looked out the window and that’s when our eyes met. Even from afar, I could see the hostile expression on his face.
What the fuck,I thought, even as I forced myself to smile at him. If he’s not going to be a good neighbor, then that’s his problem.
He glared at me in response. My mouth opened in disbelief.Asshole!
He turned around and went back to his computer. I decided to just join the fun in the poolside and forget about this jerk. I will certainly not let him ruin my perfect day and this new beginning in my life.
I may have suffered a tragedy in love, but it led me to become the new CEO of the company I’ve worked for since I graduated from the university. Having to move to Las Vegas was another blessing as this was bound to help in my emotional recovery, even though I would have to leave my family and friends behind.
I need this! And no one’s going to ruin it for me.
Later that evening, we were all engrossed in a card game when the doorbell rang. We lowered the volume of the music while Rasha went to open the door and see who it was.
I followed her and was taken aback when I saw a police officer standing in the doorway. Apparently, my very handsome but cranky neighbor called the cops on us. To think there were just twelve people here in total and it’s a Saturday, anyway. And honestly, I don’t think we were making that much noise.
Rasha handled it smoothly and the cops went away. We were all adults drinking socially and having some fun.
I was greatly annoyed at the thought that that strange guy would do this. I would have to put up with him while living here!
“Perhaps you should put in a request for a change of address,” one of the women suggested. “Gosh, I don’t think I’ll ever have peace living next door to someone like that!”
“Maybe he’s just overly sensitive…” someone quipped.
“Well, exactly! Then Leigh will need to always adjust to him!” another one said.
I took a deep breath and just smiled. “Well, let’s see what happens in the coming days and weeks. For now, let’s just enjoy ourselves.”
We continued the fun indoors with the sliding doors closed and the music playing at a lower volume.
It was actually crazy! I felt like I was a teenager who had to follow Dad’s rules or be careful not to disturb the neighbor.
“Well, one thing’s for sure!” Andie said with a grin. “You’re going to have one hell of an adventure here in Sin City!”
“Cheers!” the others screamed, toasting their wine glasses together.
I laughed and nodded, raising my wine glass too. “Cheers to the beginning of an amazing adventure!”

CARTER
Bagelwithcreamcheeseand plain black coffee. My kind of breakfast, especially on lazy Sundays.
I usually went for a run, but I had not been able to sleep well last night due to the ruckus from the next-door neighbor who had just moved in. The mere thought of it made my blood boil.
