Page 31 of Brake's Intent

It’s complete bullshit, and I’m ready to murder someone. Anyone.

My phone rings in my pocket, and I’m tempted to ignore it as I have every other time he’s gone off, but it’ll keep ringing until I finally answer his call. Reaching in the pocket, I yank the damn thing out. “What?”

“Don’t fuckin’ what me, boss. You’re the asshole who didn’t want to answer the phone when I called five fuckin’ million times,” Reed snaps.

“What’s so important you’ve been blowing my phone up?” I demand as I make my way closer to the boathouse. I know when they get back with those two fuckers that’s where they’ll take them.

“Figured you would want to know the shit we’d found out, you know, about Brake’s folks.”

My step falters, and I clench the phone tighter. “What did you find?” It’s all I can do to keep control.

“Both are now dead, but Marques took the liberty of digging more into the mom after what he found out, and I swear to fuck what he’s found makes Ted Bundy look sane,” Reed states.

“And what’s that?” I grind out.

“I’ll be at the clubhouse in five minutes, I’ll give you the file, and you can see for yourself.”

“Right,” I mutter and disconnect just as Fuse catches up with me. From the look on his face, I know whatever he’s gonna say ain’t good. “What is it?”

“Once the rest get back here, we’re locking down the club,” he announces.

“Why?” I arch a brow, wondering what else is coming about.

“Because according to Brake, the devil himself will be coming, and I’m not taking any chances.”

I nod in understanding and shove my phone back in my pocket. “One of my men, Reed, will be here in a few minutes,” I inform him as I hear the sounds of the airboat heading in our direction.

“I’ll inform Crash to let him in, then secure the gates,” Fuse says, pulling his phone out.

I grunt thanks and head to where the guys will park the boat. I’m not surprised to see Bart hanging close by. He probably senses the danger and is ready for whatever they’re going to give him.

“Let’s get this fucker into the boathouse,” Chains barks out, shoving Benoit out of the airboat and causing him to stumble.

“You’re going to regret this,” Eugene snaps. “All of you and that whore who killed Charlotte.”

“Shut the fuck up,” Tyres snarls and punches Eugene with enough force that he falls out of the boat. “Fucker is pissed I let Pocket eat the bitch.”

I nod and stare at the fucker as he’s yanked out of the water.

I hear Bart hiss from not far away just as Reed joins us.

“Damn, you all already started a party without me,” he quips, taking in Benoit and Eugene as they’re dragged to the boathouse.

“This is a closed party,” Breaker mutters and goes inside.

“You’ll invite me to it once you see what’s in this folder,” Reed states and hands the file over to me. “Like I said, makes Ted Bundy look sane.”

“What are you talking about?” Ryder demands.

I open the file and start scanning over it, and my anger boils to rage. I want nothing more than to kill those fuckers here and now. I slap the file closed and look to Tyres then the others. “Y’all have some fucked up family members,” I say and hold the folder out to him. “And don’t ever think that Brake doesn’t do anything to protect y’all.” I walk past him and into the boathouse, more than ready to get my hands bloody. I step up to Eugene and slam my fist into his face.

“Oh, looks like Lawson’s losing his cool,” I hear Reed remark from somewhere behind me, but I ignore him and start wailing on the motherfucker.

Visions of the past blur with what I saw in that damn house. Brake hanging there motionless. This image mixes with the one of my family. Losing them all and being left with no one. I lose myself in the motion of taking my fist against the bastard and end up fighting to keep from being pulled away.

“Let me go,” I snarl.

“Boss, cool it,” Reed states, stepping in front of me. He grabs my face and forces me to look at him. “You need to get your shit together. Remember, Brake’s alive. He’s good.”I hadn’t told him what happened to Brake, so one of the other guys had to. “Take a breath, Lawson, and remember. Don’t let the shadows trick you.”
