“It’s not them I’m worried about.” Pat turned and left.

Ch. 7 Kira and the guards

Iwoke to whispersoutside my cell. Keeping my eyes shut I strained to hear them. My back bore into the metal. Sharp pains trickled down my legs. I must have rolled in my sleep. Water dripped from the ceiling. A constant drop, drip, drop. I had fallen asleep to that noise, now it was distracting me. Drop, Drip, Drop.

Concentrate, Kira!

“We can’t keep her,” one of them whispered. It sounded like a twin, maybe Jason.

“We have no choice. She stays,” a gruff voice replied. Probably Aiden.

“She isn’t some plaything you can keep around,” Jason whispered.

“I don’t know, that sounds like a lot of fun. Have you seen her?” the man I thought was Derek asked.

“This is not a game. We need to get her to talk,” Aiden's voice vibrated as he spoke.

“Gentlemen, she is from the streets. She isn’t gonna trust any of you,” Pat chimed in.

“So what do you suggest, Pat? Because we have two weeks before the family arrives,” Jason said.

“Can we not forget what she stole?” Aidens foot slammed into the ground, or his fist into a wall. I wasn’t sure. “If that gets out. If she gave that to anyone, the damage it could do.”

“No way it got out. She hid it somewhere. She didn’t have time to give it to anyone. Hopefully,” Jason said.

“Gotta be hidden. We searched her body. And what a nice body I might add. Did you see those hips? I would love to grab ahold of them and...” Derek practically moaned.

“Enough. We need to get her to talk,” Aiden demanded.

“Might I suggest something?” Pat asked. After a few moments of silence he continued. “Befriend her. She thinks you guys are the enemy. Take turns guarding her. Talk to her. Get to know her. You have two weeks before the family arrives and puts her on trial. Take the time to try and get her to trust you. Then she’ll talk.”

He was out of his mind. I liked Pat, but that was bullshit.Get to know me? Me, trust them? Never gonna happen. Not to mention the taking turns guarding me.What were they gonna do? Sit outside my cell. If they spend all their time with me, I would kill Pat.

Since the government had failed, The Elites took it upon themselves to hold trials and dole out punishments as they see fit. Most people that were put on trial got minor sentences like clean for a year, for free. It was all ridiculous since half the time they didn’t commit any crimes. If it was more serious like murder and anything with a child, they were killed. I didn’t even think they had a trial. Just executed right there on the spot.

I saw it happen once. A creepy looking older man with one eye was accused of kidnapping a child. The Elite security guards rolled in and slaughtered him right on the spot. The child was found hours later, he had gotten lost on his way home and had never even heard of the man accused. Nothing happened to the security guards. Now, I wasn’t saying people who did awful things shouldn’t be punished, but there should be some order to it. And they should have to make sure they had the right person.
