“Good. I’m on the outskirts of the city. There’s a massive divot in the ground. No one knows what it is, how it came to be, but now I’m wondering… was that you?”

“No, not us.”

“Ah. Well, that’s where I am with your boy. He followed me here.”

“And why were you there?”

“I’m still there,” she says. “Like I said, I thought it might’ve been something from you and your guys. I thought it might have a clue as to where you keep your spaceship. You do still have one, don’t you?”

“Maybe. Maybe now. If any harm as come to Luther…”

“He’s fine for now,” Teri says sweetly. “You have ten minutes.”

I can hear a phone snap shut.

“Do you think he bought that?” Teri asks, her tone now dripping with nerves.

“You did great,” I tell her.

But I know Joelo.

He’s not going to come alone.

He’s going to bring a ton of his men with him.

We’ll be ready, though.

“Be careful,” I tell them.

“We will,” Teri says.

She hangs up again, and I sigh. She’s coming here. Everyone is going to be hiding except for her and Luther.

And when Joelo comes, I’m going to end him.

End this.

Teriand the others are here in three minutes.

She gave Joelo ten.

He’s there in five.

But we’re ready. Teri has Luther on a chair much like we had Jamey before, and he’s gagged so he can’t possibly tip Joelo off about this being a trap.

When Joelo rides up, he’s in a massive limo, and he climbs out but so do twenty of his guys, including the one I shot in the shoulder.

“Teri, do you think I’m a fool?” Joelo asks. “Alecor? Where are you?”

I don’t answer. I can see the glint of his gun on his hip, and I shoot him right in the chest.

Joelo looks down before he sways and falls over.

Instantly, all of my men jump out of hiding, and his men bring up their weapons.

Teri reaches over and removes the gag from Luther.
