“If it’s kill or be killed…”
“I’ll do what I have to,” I murmur.
“Good. Let’s round up the others, and move now.”

Alec
It’snerve-wracking as all hell, but we’re all in position now, all of us.
When we decided to come here to Earth, a planet with limited technology, we figured that we wouldn’t have to worry about many other superiorly intelligent species, so we destroyed our spaceship. It caused a massive crater on the outskirts of the city. It was a way for us to turn our back on the past and look forward to the future.
It is here that we are going to make our last stand.
“Are you ready?” I ask Teri through my phone.
“Yes. Now?”
I glance around. My men are all so well hidden that I can hardly see them.
“Yes, now,” I tell her.
She hangs up, and I blow out a breath.
I don’t like this, but she’s instrumental to our plan. Without her, Joelo will never leave his headquarters.
Josh has been discharged from the hospital, and her friend Stacy is with her two. Teri’s to make a show out of buying supplies for a trip and talking about moving away and going into hiding.
I also have Hal tailing them, and he’s supposed to call when it’s all done.
Step one, that is.
And it’s a half hour later that my phone rings.
“Well?”
“We got the phone, and I’m going to call him now,” Teri says.
“You should’ve seen her,” Hal says. “She was a master. Got the phone herself.”
My chest swells with pride. “Call him and have it on speaker,” I say, wanting to listen in.
I can hear the phone ring. And ring. And ring.
“Luther, did you find her?”
“He did,” Teri says, “but he’s a little tied up right now. You want to know who isn’t? Me. Look. I know you said a much of shit about me and Alec, but you’re wrong. I’m not his fated mate, and if he thinks I am, he’s wrong too. I want no part of this. If you want your boy back, fine. You can have him, but first, I want a ride.”
“A ride?”
“On a spaceship. I want away from all of this. I want to go and see other planets.”
“You want a tour of planets in return for one of my men?”
“Well, you said that Alec thinks I’m his fated mate, whatever the hell that means. It’ll hurt him real bad, won’t it? Do you really think I want to be around someone like that? Someone who caused my life to turn completely upside down? But now that I know about Grelites and Koxians, I want to see the universe.”
“The universes,” Joey says. “We… might be able to come to terms.”
