His face fell to her neck as his breaths slowed. Warm lips pressed kisses along her shoulder, neck, and jawline. “Every single day, Jenna, if you’ll let me.”
Her fingers kneaded the corded muscles in his back and shoulders before threading into his hair. “Promises, promises.”
He rolled off her with a sigh. “I do have to work until four. Any plans for the day?”
Jenna turned onto her side to face him. “I’d like to go to my parent’s restaurant and look around if that’s okay with you and your family?
“It’s not a problem. I’ll leave the key and the card with the alarm code on the kitchen counter.”
“Well, that was easy. How do you know I won’t steal anything?”
Trent grinned at the ceiling, but she saw it. “Because I’ll hunt you down and spank that fine ass.”
Jenna watched when he pushed off the bed, cleaned himself in the bathroom, and rearranged his clothing, before smoothing his rumpled hair.
Hands braced on either side of her head, he leaned over her one last time. The intensity in his eyes caused her to sink into the mattress with guilt. “Don’t run yet, Jenna. You said you’d give me a chance, plus we should hear from the lawyer this afternoon.”
How did he know, she asked herself? She didn’t know if the lawyer’s call would change anything but did know that every extra day in Trent’s arms would make leaving that much harder. Her lips twitched when he laid the key and card on the counter. Her heart sank as he took the steps two at a time. “One more day,” she whispered. Tomorrow she would go and never look back.
Her plans were to release him from that ridiculous betrothal, sell the restaurant if it was put in her name, and disappear. She’d never raise the kind of money needed to renovate it. With time, Trent would be fine. She told herself that repeatedly, while preparing for the day, although she knew she would never be the same again.

Narrowed, hazel eyes watched through the blinds as she climbed in her vehicle. Hot coffee touched his tongue then slid down the back of his throat. She glanced over her shoulder, stared at his clinic with a frown, and bit her lip as if debating something. Slim shoulders sagged and he knew what was going through her mind even as she backed away. His face tilted when his bear rose to the surface in slight panic. She planned to bolt. He knew it with every bear sense he possessed. It was time to call in reinforcements.
Chapter 15
“Anyone home?”
Jenna jerked from behind the bar at the sweet, feminine voice coming from the entrance. A tall woman with chestnut hair hovered in the doorway, one hand still on the doorknob. “Hello. Are you lost?”
The bright smile on the woman’s pretty face calmed her nerves. “My name is Diana. I’m Lucas’ mate, Trent’s oldest brother.”
Her face tilted, studying the woman and then it dawned on her. “Did Trent strong-arm you into coming here?”
Laughter was not what she expected, but it broke the ice. “Although Trent can be a bossy ass, I jumped at the chance to meet the woman who brought the famous playboy to his knees.”
Jenna shrugged before returning the laugh at Trent’s expense. “I did no such thing.”
Diana stepped a little farther into the room. “Did you really stalk him on his own hunting ground?”
A nonchalant shrug, a blush, a sarcastic smile, and the memory of the night she confronted him filled her mind. “Guilty.”
“I want the entire story. Don’t leave one detail out,” Diana practically shouted, while lifting a basket of something delicious smelling. “I brought muffins and bottles of water.”
“Are you bribing me?” Jenna asked, with a little smirk.
Diana only nodded. “Will it work?”
Both women burst into chuckles. Jenna wiped the dust off two stools and motioned for her to have a seat. Diana pulled a dishtowel off the basket and offered a muffin and water. Jenna eagerly accepted but was more interested in this woman. “So, you’re with Lucas? I haven’t met any of the brothers yet, although I’ve seen photographs.”
After grabbing a muffin for herself, Diana settled with a mischievous look in her eyes. “Yes. Lucas and I are together, but I want to know all about you. Are you a shifter as well?”
“Grizzly.”
Diana’s mouth gaped open, then snapped shut. “That explains a lot. Trent met his match in his mate.”
“I don’t know about all that.”
