“It’ll have to be after the party.” I pressed my knees together to ward off the electric pulsing in my clit.

“Right.” He wiped his hands on a napkin. “Wolf won’t be there.”

Uh-oh, I had a feeling he might not attend. “He’s struggling.”

“Yeah, I know. Since Storm called off the search for Rosa, Wolf’s not only mad at the world but his MC.” His face fell. “The Remottis’ are having a service for her next month. They’re ready to accept she’s gone.”

“But they didn’t find her body. How can they stop searching?” I was getting worked up. “If I’d known my mother’s body wasn’t in the coffin on the day of her funeral, I would’ve never accepted her death. I would’ve never stopped looking for her.”

“I don’t know. It’s not our call.” He put his arm around me and pulled me close. “Don’t get worked up, Bonita. They just want closure after Cobra’s club heard she was dead.”

“From their traitors!” He had filled me in a smidge a few weeks ago. “I don’t agree with them. She could be alive… Somewhere.” I pushed my food away. “No wonder Wolf is angry.”

“He’s got a lot going on inside him. I’ll go get a box to take this home.” He went to the counter.

My heart ached for poor Wolf and Rosa. Coby had admitted they had put Rosa and the servant girl in a new hiding place. He’d thrown out several locations, but it had been a wild-goose chase for Wolf. Fucking Coby had probably lied for one last jolly.

Of course that didn’t explain why those men, the traitors in Cobra’s club, had said the Mafia princess was dead. They were probably lying like Coby. God, I hated lying with a burning passion.

“I bought some bear claws for Grizz and Libby. They’re packaging them for me.” Joseph put my leftovers in a pink bakery box.

“That was nice of you.” I forced a smile. “They’ll appreciate it.”

“Yeah.” He took my hand to help me out. “Sorry to be a mood killer.”

“It’s okay. When we return to the compound, we’ll put on a happy face for Ava and Ire.”

“Yes, we won’t ruin the fun.”

I had never been surrounded by so many people I could call family. But two and a half months after arriving in Minnesota, I’d become part of the Knight’s Legion MC. I proudly called them my chosen family.

I cuddled baby Zane in the crook of my arm and smelled his head.

“Intoxicating, right?” Jaynee said while cutting up Sadie’s food.

“I’ve never smelled anything like it.”

“Really? He’s the first baby you’ve held?” She situated Sadie on a chair beside then turned toward me.

“I’m embarrassed to admit, he’s the first. I will need all the experienced mamas here to help me when Missy is born.”

“We’ve got your back, babe.” Jaynee clucked her tongue.

“And don’t forget you have your own mother to help you navigate motherhood.” My mom kissed Zane’s little head. “I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

I smiled and stared at the baby to avoid eye contact with her. She didn’t know about Joseph and my plans to move back to Montana next year. I hadn’t had the heart to tell her.

“And I’ll be your babysitter,” Valerie said from across the table. “I won’t even charge you.”

“I want in on that deal.” Jaynee winked at my sister. “Why is Angel waddling toward us, looking like the cat who’d swallowed the canary?”

“No idea,” I muttered.

“Oh my gosh, you guys,” Maddy breathed heavily, bracing her hand on my chair. “He brought a girl to the party.”

“Who?” My mom, Jaynee, Valerie, and I said simultaneously.

“Maddox.” Maddy made a ridiculously excited face. “I overheard Storm talking to Arctic at the front gate. You know my husband is the only one who can approve guests.” She rolled her sky-blue-colored eyes.
