He kissed me. “I feel like celebrating with my wife.” Each time he called me wife, I swooned. It wasn’t often because he preferred to call me Bonita, but I quickly got used to it.
We had eloped last month, neither wanting to waste any time making me his legal wife.
“Okay, sure, husband.” I blew him a kiss and tugged my shirt down. “But we need to be back at the clubhouse for the couples’ shower.”
“Psh, they can wait for us.”
“Don’t be cocky.” I waved at the tech as they left. “Where do you want to go?”
“I’m craving cupcakes.” He bent to kiss my stomach. “Maybe we should call her cupcake.”
“You’re goofy. We’re calling her Missy as a nickname for Melissa. Missy Montez has a nice ring.”
He helped me off the table. “Yeah, but Melody is called Birdie. Our girl should have a cutesy name too.”
Good grief, this guy. “Let’s go get you your cupcake. I think your sugar level may be low, causing you to not think clearly.” I teased, pushing him out of the room. “Do you honestly believe Birdie is going to stick long term? She’s only a toddler and doesn’t know any better.”
“True. What about Mellie.”
“It’s too close to Birdie.”
We left the clinic and strolled down the street in Winters toward Sugar Bliss Bakery. We could’ve found an OB/GYN in Bastion, but Maddy highly recommended Doctor Weber. All of the pregnant old ladies go to her. Having the bakery so close was a bonus.
Next weekend was Ava and Ire’s wedding, and the couples shower tonight had been scheduled two weeks ago, but Jaynee had gone into labor. Baby Zane had arrived at a whopping nine pounds and twenty-one inches long. And he was so precious. Ava and Ire had kindly delayed their party so Lynx and Jaynee could attend.
It was the first big celebration since the craziness with Dorian. I was more than a little excited about it. I wanted to enjoy life with Joseph and look ahead to our future.
Of course the club mourned the fallen and rebuilt the compound to make it virtually indestructible. It was like a fortress in the woods. I certainly felt safe there.
We entered the bakery and the yumminess behind the glass overwhelmed me. After my appointments, we came for a treat. I never could decide what to pick.
“The usual, Bonita?”
“Yes, please.” I rubbed my tummy while he ordered my usual, which was the same three items: a cream puff, apple turnover, and a chocolate cupcake. I needed a taste of everything.
We sat at our favorite booth in the corner and devoured our sweet treats.
“I’m gaining weight, you know.” I licked the frosting off my finger.
“I haven’t noticed.” He took a monster bite of his pastry.
“You’re so not telling the truth.”
“Of course I am. I love you and my love is blind, in a good way.” He winked and sipped his coffee.
“Love is blind means you don’t see the person’s faults.”
“That’s why I said in a good way. You don’t have any faults. Even if you blimp out, I’ll still love you and find you sexy.” He lifted my chin and kissed me.
How could I argue with him?
“I feel the same about you, my handsome man.”
“I don’t have any faults?”
“None of us are perfect, baby.” I giggled and munched on my treats.
“Okay, Bonita. When we get home, you’re mine.” The heat in his dark eyes made my skin sizzle.
