“Oh shit. You were pregnant then?”

“Barely. My doctor told me it happens to women all the time and I shouldn’t worry since it was a one-time thing. But then again, I wasn’t able to tell her I got so drunk that I married my ex-husband.”

“I’m really glad you did.”

He ran his thumb down my cheek, and a memory of that night flashed in my brain, causing me to gasp.

“What?”

I blinked up at him in wonder. “You haven’t had sex with anyone but me.”

He smiled. “I told you, Delaney, none of them were you. You’re the only one I want.”

“What changed?” I asked.

“What do you mean? It’s always been you.”

“How did you go from not touching me to railing me every night for the last four weeks?”

“Four weeks? I can’t believeIdidn’t realize you were pregnant.”

I tugged on his shirt. “Answer the question.”

He snorted. “A shit ton of therapy.”

“What?Really?”

Preston had never been against therapy. At least, not for other people. But he’d grown up in an environment that didn’t approve of mental health care. I’d heard his mother make comments many times throughout the years.

“Yeah. It took months, but I eventually figured out I couldn’t do it on my own. But I’m probably going to have to start going back now that you’re pregnant.” He looked down even though our bodies touched. “I can’t believe we’re going to have another baby.”

“I know. But my doctor also told me not to worry too much about another placental abruption because it probably won’t happen again. It was because of outside circumstances. If I hadn’t fallen on the stairs, it wouldn’t have happened.”

“That makes me feel a little better, but I’m probably still going to worry constantly.”

That didn’t bother me. It meant he cared.

“I understand.”

“At least, I think I will worry. I still have to wrap my head around it. Right now, it doesn’t seem real.”

“Tell me about it. When I found out, I was in shock, especially since I thought you were fixed.” I smiled. “I’m glad you’re not though. You’re the only man I’ve ever wanted to father my children.”

He growled, “You keep talking like that, and I’ll knock you up as soon as this one’s born.”

I laughed but only for a moment. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

“Do what?”

“Be married to me again?”

Preston reached into his pocket and pulled out our wedding rings. “More than anything else in the whole world.”

TWENTY-NINE

PRESTON

Stepping back,I lifted Delaney’s hand and slipped her wedding ring on her finger. After admiring it for a moment, I said, “Perfect.”
