After some time, one of the wolves grabbed the other by the throat and ripped it out.

The injured wolf dropped to the floor and bled heavily.

Kinsen limped away and when he changed back, they could see he was all torn up.

Trent and Jacks joined him to see how bad it was.

Kinsen looked at Amira. “His name was Wallace. And where Wallace goes his brother Herman goes as well.”

Trent turned to look at her. “And where Wallace and Herman go, their friend Billy Joe Black can be found as well. They are what is known as the three Musketeers of our pack.”

Bullfrog came over with a blanket and told them to get their man to the infirmary. Disc, their doctor could help him there.

Trent shook his head. “We’re shifters, we heal really fast. He doesn’t need treatments, he just needs food and time.”

“Then get the man some food and help him get dressed, would ya?” Bullfrog replied in his croaky voice. “We got ladies here, gentlemen.”

The members of the MC laughed.

Rissa seemed unbothered by the man’s nudity, but Amira kept her gaze away from Kinsen.

Swag rushed to the kitchen and brought him back something to eat and drink.

Kinsen by this time had his pants back on while sitting in a chair. He looked at the plate of food and nodded. “Thanks.” Even then, his bleeding had stopped and his skin was knitting together again.

Bullfrog just shook his head. “That’s just wacked, you know, just wacked.” He shook his head again and in the deep throated voice that earned him the call name Bullfrog, he stated, “Ain’t seen anything like that before.”

A shout came from outside as a rage filled voice called out Wallace’s name.

Diesel growled low, walked over to the wolf’s carcass, and picked it up. He carried it over to the front door where Steel was there to open it and Diesel tossed the carcass out. It hit the ground and at least three wolves howled in rage.

One of them had to be in human form while hiding as he had a voice. “You fucking bastards. You killed my brother!”

“Yeah, we did,” Diesel shouted back. “He came in here looking to kill us. You guys called first blood but we’ll get last blood when we kill each and every one of you.”

“Kinsen Peterson, you betrayed your own pack by this act,” Milo called out.

Kinsen slowly rose up and moved over, closer to the door. “But you betrayed us first Wicks. You betrayed the mother of your child then tried to sell her back to her grandmother. When that didn’t work, you kept her from the rest of the pack then you faked your own death to get away from the loan sharks you owed money to.”

Trent also called out, “What is your cup of jive, Wicks? The cards or the ponies? How far behind are you as the loan sharks wait to be paid off?”

“Shut your fucking mouths,” Milo called back.

“Do the others know yet that you plan to kill them if you all get to the gold?” Trent called out now. “You want it all to yourself don’t you? Yeah, you’re one that never liked to share and never with the gold. They might help you dig it up, but they won’t be walking away with it, will they?”

“You have no fucking idea what you’re talking about Bricker,” Milo called back. The fear in his voice could be detected now though. It caused the wolves outside to growl and snarl at the thought of what Milo might have planned.

“You better run while you can, Milo,” Kinsen called out. “If those loan sharks catch up with you, they’ll demand their money and from what I know, you ain’t got enough left to your name to buy lunch. Run away little wolfie, run away.”

“I ain’t leaving this time until I have the gold or my daughter’s blood stains the ground. That little bitch should never have been born.” Milo snarled.

Luther lifted the rifle in his hands up to his shoulder and he snapped off a shot. The glass of the window shattered and everyone heard a wolf yelp. They also heard the sound of wolves running into the trees behind the clubhouse.

Luther turned and made his way back to the table and looked at Amira. He could see the mask she wore and her emotionless eyes didn’t betray what she was feeling. He knelt beside her and looked right at her. “He won’t even get close to you. I won’t let that happen.”

Amira reached out and cupped his cheek with her hand. “Why do you care so much? You didn’t know me yesterday and now you want to protect me? Why?”

Luther reached up and cupped her check. “You really have to ask me that?” he whispered. “I remember some of it now.” He leaned in closer and brushed her mouth with his own.
