Kinsen looked at him quickly and nodded slowly. “She is worth it. Now that we know some of her history, I’m surprised Milo is still breathing.”
Luther shook his head. “He knew he couldn’t hurt her but that doesn’t mean he didn’t. He kept her basically locked away from everyone else. You said it yourself, no one knew she was even there. Which means he denied her very existence. That had to hurt.” Shrugging he admitted, “He may never have hurt her physically, but being ignored all your life is still abuse.”
Kinsen studied him for a moment then asked, “You like her, don’t you? I mean we all saw, when that storm...” He didn’t finish.
Luther shrugged but didn’t say anything.
“If you hurt her, I will rip your throat out,” Kinsen whispered and moved away.
Luther just stared at him and raised his eyebrow.
Chapter Twelve
Amira looked over at her grandmother and asked, “Can you really bring my mother back?”
Rissa shrugged. “I can try but I’ll need your help to do it.”
Amira shook her head. “But I don’t have any abilities to do that, I told you that.”
Rissa nodded. “I know you did but you just haven’t been taught how to use them yet, that’s all.”
“But you do have powers,” Trent told her. “When Steel tried to grab you...” He shook his head as he remembered the odd event. “You put your hands up and he went flying. Then you bent the locks on the cell doors and the bars.” He looked over at Rissa. “Is that her power, maybe?”
Rissa froze and turned her head to stare at her granddaughter. “You pushed a man through the air and bent metal?”
Amira shrugged. “I-I don’t remember doing those things exactly like he is saying.”
Rissa smiled. “Oh my beauty, don’t you see? I have the power to harness the winds and hide things from the sight of those who don’t deserve to see them, your mother had the power to talk to the animals and harness the storms. You have the power to bend the elements to your will. When we bring your mother back from the between, the three of us will be more powerful than we ever would be alone.”
“But that too, could lead to danger couldn't it?” Amira asked.
Rissa nodded as she gave her a wide smile. “Dangerous to others maybe. Like the Wicks of this world. And that is a good thing with what we are up against. If we were to ever abuse our abilities, it could be. But if we did that, we would lose them. They are only given to those who truly deserve them.”
Kinsen came back to the table and announced, “Well, we know five of the wolves outside.”
“But there are ten wolves waiting and watching this place,” Rissa told them.
“Are you sure?” Kinsen asked her.
Both Amira and Rissa nodded.
“I heard their heartbeats,” Amira added. “She’s right, there are ten just like we counted when they howled.”
Diesel shouted out, “Incoming.”
Suddenly, a window shattered and a wolf jumped through the broken glass.
Kinsen growled and shed his clothes in an instant, it happened so fast that no one even saw his human form as he changed to a wolf.
Trent and Jacks remained as guards around Rissa and Amira.
Kinsen charged at the other wolf.
The other wolf snarled and the battle was on.
The MC brothers just got out of the way, they couldn’t risk shooting at the wolves because they didn’t want to hit Kinsen.
The growling got fierce and blood stained both their hides but neither of them seemed willing to give up.
