As if I was some one night stand he didn’t want to have to look in the eyes in the morning.
And I, like some needy fuck, had been looking forward to waking up with him.
What I needed was the ocean to wash him out of my head.
Getting dressed I grabbed my bag and my board and left.
The sun was just cresting the horizon when I pulled my wet suit on, grabbed my board and strode into the cold waves.
Hours later the only sounds in my head were the crashing of the waves, the screaming of the gulls and the calls of my surfing buddies.
It had been the perfect morning and I was smiling wide when I finally jumped off my board into the shallows, hoisted my board under my arm and walked out of the ocean.
Strange had her towel spread out next to my bag and was waxing her board when I walked up.
“Hey there, how’s it going this morning?”
“Good and you?”
I pulled my towel out and dried off then spread it out before I answered.
“Good, no complaints. I caught a couple of great sets out there.”
Unzipping my suit I pulled my arms free and letting it hang around my waist sat down and pulled out another towel and rubbed it over my torso and arms
“I saw. Are you back surfing with us again? I wanted to ask last night but forgot, what happened to the bitch you were banging?”
So typical of her, she got right to the point.
“She’s gone and we’ll never see her again.”
“Thank the pope, because let me tell you, I was going to knock her head off if she came shouting abuse at me again.”
I sighed and shook my head. “Shit, I’m sorry about that. I made a huge mistake hooking up with her and no matter what I did she wouldn’t leave me alone. One thing I can promise you is that she won’t be back.”
A body fell into the sand next to me and I jerked to the side to see who it was.
Laughing like the crazy man he was Brody smacked me on the back. I couldn’t stop the answering grin even if I tried.
“Morning bru, we haven’t seen you around here for a while. You looked good out there.”
“Morning and thanks, I’ve been staying below radar until my bitch problem was sorted.”
He gave me a sly look. “And that hickey on your neck? You didn’t have that when you left the club. Where did it come from?”
My hand flew up reflexively to cover the bite mark even as I shook my head. Immediately pissed off again.
“It’s nothing.”
All I got was laughter and raised eyebrows.
I hung out for a little while then left to shower and go to work. I had several appointments today and was going to be busy until late.
The day passed without any contact from the bastard who had sneaked out of my bed and my house while I was sleeping.
I was cleaning my station after my last client had left when I felt someone watching me and looked up into Pixie’s worried eyes as she peeked into my cubicle.
“Are you okay?”
