Chapter Eighteen
Melina
“Daphne,”Osirus’svoicerangout harshly.
I peeked around Osirus. Most of his body was covering my view of the room, and after hearing some name with such a harsh tone, I knew I had to see.
Little did I know, curiosity killed the cat.
“Who is Daphne?” I turned back to Alaneo, whose eyes widened at the sight of her.
He said nothing but looked onward, like seeing a ghost. This Daphne was wearing close to nothing. The tulle she wore that covered her breasts still showed her nipples proudly, and the netting down below on her private area barely left anything to the imagination. She was everything I thought a female fae should be.
She was a graceful, beautiful, exquisite creature. I immediately frowned when she stood up and walked to Osirus. The sway of her hips, confidence, and presence had the room still.
Osirus looked at her, eyes furrowed, and his lips spread into a thin line and into a frown. At least he wasn’t too happy to see her.
“Daphne.” Osirus’s tone was full of warning as she walked closer. Her face was innocent as she held her shoulders up and then down.
“What is it, Your Majesty?” Her voice was sickly sweet. “I saw several of your servants getting the royal bed chambers ready. I thought you had chosen me to be your mate.”
Her feet stopped just a few feet away from Osirus, her hand about to touch him until I cleared my throat.
Osirus’s hand found mine and gave it a squeeze. “Who is this?” Her voice was now seemingly normal instead of her candy-coated voice from earlier. “Did you bring a concubine for your harem?” Daphne ticked. Right there, fires have been shot. Who did this woman think she was?
Before I could speak, Alaneo put his hand on my shoulder, making sure I didn’t take off the hood of my cloak. “Gracious Daphne, I must ask you to leave. You are breaking many laws by being in this room alone.” Alaneo’s voice was serious as Braxton came over and grabbed Daphne’s upper arm.
“What do you mean?” Again, with the candy voice. “The King and I were the last ones to be intimate with each other. One would only think that these chambers were made for me.” Daphne blinked her eyes a few times as she stared at Osirus. His face never changed. He continued to stare at her with such malice.
He had yet to say a word to her.
“You must remember,” Daphne purred. “Our romp on the beach just a short time ago.” Her manicured finger got close to Osirus’s shoulder until the spark in me blew a casket.
“Well, obviously he doesn’t remember if you have to remind him,” I spat. Daphne’s head turned so fast the wind direction could have changed.
“What did you say, you little whore?” Her hand flew back, ready to strike me, but Finley quickly intervened.
“Aye, that’s enough there,” he taunted.
Daphne’s anger didn’t falter as she tried to struggle, looking to Osirus for help.
“First-tier prison,” Osirus spoke with command, and our two friends took Daphne out kicking and screaming.
Daphne was literally dragged from the room, and the plush carpet still had her feet impressions after they dragged her through. Osirus stepped forward, letting go of my hand as he leaned against the foot of the bed. Alaneo snickered and came forward to take my cloak.
“That was brilliant,” Alaneo whispered as he held out his hand.
Giving it a quick smack, I lifted the corner of my mouth in acknowledgment as he closed the doors behind us. Osirus continued to stare off into the distance of the ocean. The suns had finally set, and the stars and moon came over the horizon of the ocean.
“Melina, darling, I’m sorry.”
My head whipped back to him, and I walked to the foot of the bed, sitting on it while he continued to lean.
“It has been over three hundred years since I have had relations. Unfortunately, it was with that woman. We were childhood friends, but over a drunken stupor, we ended up doing things I deeply regret. While I was sleeping, she took it upon herself to try and change things in the castle regarding my staff, and I then knew her true intentions. To become my chosen mate.”
I gasped a bit. From what I gathered, Supernatural beings were dead set on having their true mate. Sure, they would have relationships before they met their intended, but both parties understood that once their true mate showed up, they would discontinue the relationship. At least, that was what I understood.
“You see, Melina, the Golden Light Kingdom isn’t all rainbows and light.” Osirus went to a nearby cabinet, pulled out a dark liquid, and poured himself a glass. “For the past several thousand years, fae wanted to marry for power instead of love and happiness. They wanted a piece of the pie, a piece of the power one could have under a king. They brushed away a gift from the Goddess Selene just so they could have riches.”
