Osirus took a long sip while he poured water into another glass. The ice cubes clinking tickled my ears as he looked at me, handing me the glass. “In the past two hundred and fifty years, I have been able to block any marriages or bonds of convenience to come into the Court. That in itself has proven a pain, but I’ve kept it up.” He sighed and led me to a small seating arrangement near the windows.

“It is the first step in changing how this kingdom is to be run. Get rid of the money and power-hungry nobles and replace them with a new Court. Representatives from each fae order around the kingdom. The sprites, the fairies, the fae, whisps, nymphs, and even sirens. No more nobility or high taxes to keep up their lavish lifestyle. Live more, as the shifters do.

“Take what is needed for food, help one another by building homes, and taking care of orphans when needed. The basics of life taken care of by the kingdom, and the taxes on goods they earn will be filtered back into the kingdom to create better lifestyles. Help pay for the army and their basic needs as well. People will earn what they want to have, not have it handed to them.”

I sat in awe as I listened. I hardly realized I was basically on his lap listening to him. The conviction and passion in his voice soothed my soul with how he wanted to help his own people.

“Too many times I’ve seen dirty children running the capital. They look starved and hungry, yet the Court turns a blind eye. They want their diamonds, precious things, and fancy houses,” he spat. “This castle was originally built by the people of this nation, gifted to the first king with the finest materials. In turn, that king gave the basic needs to everyone that needed it. If they did not have jobs, he supplied them. If there were no homes, he helped build them.” Osirus cleared his throat.

“At the time, the Court was there to help oversee it all. But it has turned wicked, and Parliament can’t do a damn thing about it. The Court is the votes of Parliament to make sure a king does not have too much power, but now the Court holds the power. And it makes the people suffer, especially when they have small armies.”

I frowned at hearing his speech. A king is a king, the last commander and speaker of a nation, and now the Court holds all of it? It didn’t sound like he could do much at all. He was just the face of the Golden Light Kingdom. My heart clenched at the thought of hungry children with no food.

Osirus sensed my distress and held me tightly. “Do not worry. With you by my side, we will accomplish much.” He kissed my forehead. “I have special places where children and the poor have access to clean food, water, and shelter. It is just not an open service to keep the Court at bay while we plan another way.” I sighed a bit as I rested against his shoulder.

“What about Daphne?” I whispered.

Osirus sighed deeply and leaned back into the cushion. “She is a high-ranking Court member. Well, at least her parents are. Mated for convenience and now want their daughter to be my chosen mate. I’ve refused. The Parliament cannot force me. However, her being in this bed chamber was the perfect opportunity so I could lock her up for a while and get her out of my hair.” He chuckled, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Then why did you freeze when she was walking toward you? You said little of anything. I thought you were going to go to her.”

Osirus looked at me in surprise. “Darling, never.” He kissed my lips. “I don’t show emotion to anyone except you. My mind was wandering about the best way to handle the situation, and Alaneo is usually my speaker. Apparently, he was speechless himself the way she was dressed. It was quite brazen, even for a fae.”

I nodded, accepting his explanation. If Esteban came to me half-dressed, I don’t think I would know what to say either.

I just hoped I was beautiful enough. She looked like an angel, like him. All the fae were equally beautiful, but here I was, a human looking oddly plain against all of them.

Osirus and I sat in each other’s arms until we heard a knock at the door. Quietly, a cart was rolled in with food, and Osirus seamlessly waved them off as he approached. The main living area also had a dining room, refrigerator, and small kitchenette for light cooking if needed.

Osirus had me sit down at the table and served me himself. A king was serving a poor, lowly peasant. I grinned as he sat down, waiting for me to take the first bite. When I finally put the chicken into my mouth, I let out a breathy moan. The chicken fell apart in my mouth, and the garlic butter sauce gave it just enough flavor. Osirus would flick his eyes over from time to time to catch my appearance at how I loved the food.

When Osirus would look at me, it gave me butterflies. He made me feel like I was the center of his world. Everything I did, he noted. He would always eye me as I patted my napkin to my lips or when I would wiggle in excitement for the next course of the meal.

After the rest of dinner, we talked about our childhoods. His, being much longer than mine, was full of adventure. There were battles he won and women and children he had saved, such as Finley, Braxton, and Everett. They were young fae, just barely able to grow their beards when Osirus saved his family from rabid vampires going across their territory. Now they said they were indebted to him for saving their mother.

I felt my stories were nowhere near as exciting, yet he listened with interest. I was just a bookworm in high school, reading every fairy tale of adventure I could find. I even told him of my childlike bedroom back at my cabin. Frilly lace, a bed canopy, and tons of stuffed animals still adorned the bed back home. The thought made me a bit homesick, thinking I would never see any of my things.

Osirus assured me he already had servants gathering my things, even my clothes, so I could always have them. Pictures, my childhood toys that held some memories, blankets, and clothes would all be here in the next few days. My heart skipped a beat as Osirus told me. He was very thoughtful and attentive to my wishes. Maybe one day I could gift them to my children, ourchildren, if things worked out.

After dinner, we headed to the bedroom. Even though there had been only two nights of sleeping in the same bed, I had come to like it and was ready for a restful sleep. Before getting ready for bed, I looked at the massive four-poster bed. It was almost like a gigantic canopy bed with tulle colors of whites and creams that came from the ceiling and tied at the poster part of the bed. The bed itself was larger than a king, possibly double in size. I tilted my head in question. What do you call the size of this bed?It wasn’t a king-size.Ultra-king plus?

Osirus stopped gathering his things and came behind me as I continued to look at the bed. “What is it, darling?” His hands wrapped around my waist.

“Why do we need such a gigantic bed?” He chuckled and kissed my neck.

“Because, my sweet, I plan on using every inch of that bed to pleasure you in positions you never dreamed of.” My eyes widened, and I let out an audible gulp.

Osirus sauntered to the bathroom until I called out, “You sure you aren’t just compensating for something?” I held in a laugh as he slowly turned around. His eyes had turned black, and I saw his neck vein protrude a bit. I would have thought I hit a nerve if I didn't know better.

Osirus took long strides to me, grabbed the back of my ass, and picked me up as I automatically wrapped my legs around his waist. He flung me on the bed, and I landed with a squeak. His leg spread over mine, and he put the weight of his body on my lower half. His member was painfully hard as he rubbed it across my core. I let out a brief sigh as he took my wrists and pinned them over my head. I didn’t fight or struggle, concentrating too much on the heat in my lower half.

“Does this feel like I’m compensating for something?” he breathed as his hips rolled into mine.

I let an involuntary moan escape my mouth as his lips kissed my neck. He resumed his assault as his hips remained to hit a sweet spot. One hand continued to roam the side of my body. Up and down from the right side of my rib cage to my lower back and finally my ass, giving it a hard squeeze. As I gasped at the roughness, he took this chance to stick his tongue into my mouth.

My tongue quickly followed and rubbed against his, tasting his sweet mouth. He pushed his hand onto my ass again, making his member inexplicably hard against my core. I wanted more. I didn’t want to feel just the hardness; I wanted to feel the heat.

My dress was slowly rising as he continued dancing with his hips against me. My hands fisted his hair as I pulled a bit too roughly. He groaned and lifted his hand to put on the back of my leg. The warm hand slid up the back of my thigh as he lifted it up and put it around his waist. His member was now rubbing painfully hard against my entire core.
