“This! So much this!” I exclaimed before offering my hand. “Oh. I should introduce myself. Selene Everly Ble…oh. I’m married now. Um. Selene Everly Anarchy.”
She whistled and shook my hand.
“Alpha Novacane! Just call me Nova. I didn’t know you and Alpha Asher were actually married. That’s amazing.”
“Well, it kind of just happened. We haven’t had a public ceremony yet.”
“Good! Best to do it in private first so all your enemies won't know what you’re planning,” she praised. “I should get Alpha Cain to do that for me. Only close friends, though I’ll admit, I like how we seem to be on the same vibe.”
“Same,” I admitted as I admired her outfit. “Your fashion sense is on point. Leather shorts with rips!”
“Wearing layers of clothes during the heart of winter is overrated,” she declared with a wink that had us laughing.
“It seriously is. Now if only more people dressed like us.”
“Maybe we’d get fewer stares on the street,” Nova suggested.
“Nah.” I shook my head. “I think we’d still catch attention.”
“If they saw my motorcycle, they would all be staring,” Nova offered.
“You have a bike?” My intrigue seemed to make her excited as she smirked and bobbed her head.
“She’s a beauty! Her name is Red.”
“No way! Mine is called Sapphire. Alpha Asher’s is Ruby. We haven’t gotten much time to ride them, but it would be so cool to ride with you!”
“I agree! Alpha Cain has a bike as well! We could literally do a double date!”
“T-That would be amazing,” I cheered. “Though I normally bring trouble everywhere I go so it may become a hectic ride.”
“Story of my life,” Nova announced like it was no big deal. “If I’m not getting jumped, I’m being hunted by random people who just can’t stand my exist—”
Another explosion came from behind us, leaving us to screech and hold each other as we looked back to see another set of men who now pointed guns our way.
“What?! Again?” Brook screeched. “Nova, what attraction juju did you use before we left?”
“Attraction juju? I didn’t do shit unless enjoying quality time with Alpha Cain counts, but sex shouldn’t attract every enemy in the yard!” Nova exclaimed.
“Everyone’s just getting so comfortable in pointing guns at us,” I complained.
“Ugh. Tell me about it. Seriously, if Alpha Cain sees y’all threatening his fiancée, y’all are fucked. You’ll beg for the afterlife and it won’t even come because it’s scared of Alpha Cain’s wrath,” she pointed out as her finger moved around to point to the group of men who clearly didn’t care about what we were saying.
“Don’t move!” the leader declared.
“See, your other group of assassins said that earlier and it didn’t end well,” Nova acknowledged. “It would just be smart for us to move locations if you actually have the intention of kidnapping us. At least you can add ‘kidnapping a Dusk Queen’ to your resume for new employment but then again, you’d probably be using that resume in Hell trying to get a job to pay your penance.”
“Wait!” I gasped and leaned in close to whisper, “You’re a Dusk Queen?”
“Hmm? Oh, right. That’s supposed to be a secret or something.” She didn’t even sound like she cared. “My bad, Brook.”
“You’re just going to casually tell everyone,” Brook groaned.
I glanced over to see she and Kenzo were standing there as if we weren’t on the verge of being shot at.
“Well, I mean, if I tell everyone I’m a Dusk Queen, maybe they’ll back off,” Nova whined and lifted her hands up to wave them in the air. “Beware of my Dusk wrath! Upset the queen and poisonous fumes will fill your lungs while your skin will bubble and begin to melt until you’re nothing but piles of burning flesh and bone!”
“Um…” Kenzo began and pointed forward. “I think that’s happening as you speak.”
