I squeezed his hand tighter and tossed him a playful eye roll. “Whatever. You know what I meant.”
Cyburn’s delighted chuckle filled the air and he leaned down to kiss the top of my head.
“I couldn’t have done any of this without you. And if these past three months are any proof of what the next three months will be like, three years, and beyond, then I can’t wait to see what the future will hold for us.”
My heart took a giant leap into a pool of excitement, bathing in the glory of the love and refuge Cyburn and I had created here together on Alesis.
We were engaged to be married, our wedding only days away now. Cyburn had asked me to marry him the very next day after the Operator had been killed, declaring that I was the love of his life, and he couldn’t imagine life without me in it.
I had professed the same love and affection to him and had gladly accepted his proposal. There was nothing left for me to return to on Earth anyway.
I’d buried myself in my work and hadn’t had time to make a concise effort to make long standing friendships or become closer to family.
It was something that I regretted but at the same time, I hoped to learn from those mistakes and be able to build solid relationships here on Alesis — starting with Cyburn.
Cyburn, my sexy, handsome, intergalactic dream come true. I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without him.
Certainly, it would be far less exciting, and I’d probably have been stuffed into one of the dead Belic robots if he hadn’t intervened and saved me like the god of the universe he was — at least from my point of view.
My heart ached for the humans who had been abducted like I was — butunlikeme, they didn’t have the same fortunate fate as I’d had, to escape and be found by Cyburn and his crew, to fall in love on a foreign planet.
It was all so surreal. I was still trying to wrap my head around how it had all been possible, but I would never go a single day without owing my life to Cyburn.
Our main goal for now, aside from getting married, was to focus on the rebuilding and rebirth of Alesis, starting with the capital.
I glanced around me, proud of the hustle and bustle of the city, grateful for the opportunity to start anew.
All the Belic robots had been captured. Most of them had been grateful to have been freed from the crippling grip of the Operator.
The robots that remained, those lucky enough to escape the battle unscathed, had agreed to supplemental defense and labor.
It came at a price, and they wanted their fair share of pay. Cyburn, the natural born leader he was, had agreed to the terms and conditions.
I knew it had more to do with wanting to keep the peace at long last — now that he was returned to supreme ruler on Alesis — than it had to do with what the robots were paid.
“I’ll never know how I landed this steamy prince,” I teased, giving him a bright and flirty smile as I lifted his hand, still cupped with mine, to kiss it.
Cyburn laughed. “I’ll never know how I landed this incredibly sexy human woman with the most divine curves I’ve ever seen.”
He reached around me and placed his hands on either side of my hips, grazing his fingertips across them as he marveled at me with a giddy smile.
“You’re so gorgeous.”
Our mouths met into a sensual kiss that left me tingling from head to toe, electrified from the inside out with huge helpings of passion and desire.
“So are you.” Nobody would be able to wipe the love-struck smile off my face if they tried.
Cyburn gave me a frown as if he’d just received bad news. His bottom lip poked out and he pressed me closer to his chest.
“Will you be terribly upset if I go to work for a little while?”
I stroked his forearm up and down, tracing the definition of the muscles in his biceps as my hand moved upward.
“Of course not.”
“You won’t be too disappointed?” Cyburn’s eyebrows formed a fine line of worry.
“I’ll be disappointed, sure, but that’s only because I hate to be away from you,” I admitted.
