Cyburn flexed and groaned, his eyes alive and wild with lust. “I hate being away from you too. I can’t wait to be in bed later with you. I am going to doterrible, naughty, unspeakablethings to your body.”

“Mmm.” I sighed. “Me and my body can’t wait.”

Cyburn’s grin was a mile wide as he reached around my backside and gave it a plump squeeze.

“I’ll be thinking about your naked body wrapped around mine.”

“Be careful.” I cast him a naughty smirk. “You don’t want to gettoodistracted with what you’re working on.”

“That’s true.” Cyburn sighed, his eyelids wilting with desire.

“What are you going to be working on today?”

“How best to restructure the space force,” Cyburn explained.

“Ah. That’s wonderful.”

“Every little bit helps.”

The space force was currently orbiting Alesis and several large asteroids within its orbital perimeter. Their job was to essentially form a barricade to block the outer worlds away from those controlled by the badly defeated, overtaxed and slowly failing Belic.

Cyburn glanced to the skies, heaving another extended sigh. “There is still so much work to do.”

“We’ll get there.” I gave his hard chest a gentle rub. “We’ve made so much progress. The world is in our hands now. Things are looking up. Just think about that every time you feel daunted about the future.”

Cyburn’s eyes met with mine and I saw dread in them, even after I’d tried to sooth him with my consoling words. “We’ll need to overthrow the emperor.”

“If we can make it through what we just endured, we can make it through anything. Overthrowing the Emperor will be a piece of cake.” I gave him an encouraging smile, even though I knew that taking out the Belic Emperor was going to be anythingbuteasy.

“Let’s just focus on one problem at a time, and live it one day at a time,” I suggested.

Cyburn pressed his lips to mine again and cradled my chin in his hands. He stroked my jawline with the tips of his fingers. Tingles shuddered deliciously up my spine when our eyes met and locked.

“I can’t wait to marry you,” he whispered, his eyes hazy with passion.

“I can’t wait to marryyou, the mighty King of Alesis, and the king of my heart.”

Cyburn’s jaw tightened, but his expression remained affectionate. “Not king. Not yet.”

Cyburn had already expressed to me, and everyone else who was involved in our conglomerate that he was going to refuse to take the title of king until all the system’s worlds had been freed from the Belic’s control.

It was his subtle rebellion against the emperor and the surviving Belic. I knew he didn’t want to wait around for a resurgence of their power now that he had Alesis under his control again.

Now it was time to work on getting the other worlds back. One step at a time. It would be my responsibility to keep Cyburn grounded, and to keep him from going off the deep end with a million stressors and problems at once.

I would stand by his side forever, grateful to have found him against the odds.

That is why, a few nights later, on our wedding night, after we had already declared our vows to one another, exchanged our rings, publicly declared our love for each other and were blissfully rosy on champagne and love, I knew that I’d made the right choice to stay with Cyburn and not return to Earth.

We were encased in a celebration of music, support, and starting the next chapter of our lives together as Prince and Princess of Alesis.

It was a far cry from where I’d started so long ago, trudging home from my job in Boston to my meager apartment in the city.

For every second I was awake and breathing, I counted my blessings, and counted on Cyburn to be my rock for the rest of my life.
