What the?
What?
My exhale leaves me breathless as he teasingly swats at my ass and then waltzes into the bathroom, closing the door behind him like what I said had zero effect on him whatsoever.
My brows pinch and I grab the towel still semi-tied around the top of my chest and whisper to myself, “What the ever-loving fuck was that?”
I give myself a minute or two to cool off and try to make sense of what just happened between us. There’s the sound of rushing water as Emmett turns the shower on, and he’s whistling some unknown tune as the shower curtain is pulled.
My bedroom is right across the hall from the bathroom and it’s where I retreat once I float back to reality so I can reassess and most likely overthink our conversation. It’s something April says I do nine times out of ten. It’s a weakness, what can I say?
“Okay, so he heard our conversation,” I tell myself, pacing back and forth in front of my bed. “Who cares? I mean it’s not like he doesn’t know he’s hot as sin.”
Meow
I turn and stare at Lola, gesturing with both hands. “Right? I know. So, I fell for his masterful manipulation and now he knows I want him. So, I guess fuck, and double fuck, and fuck with fuck sauce on that one. How could I have been so stupid?”
Meow
“He wants me, but he doesn’t want me? What’s up with that?” I look at myself in the mirror. “I’m a catch…sometimes. I mean I have lips and…and…and nice tits. Guys have told me I have nice tits before.”
Meow
“I know, Lola! I want him, okay? I admitted it to him and I’m admitting it to you.”
I throw myself on my bed and stare up at the ceiling.
“Seriously, what the fuck, Emmett Fox? Who gets a girl all hot and bothered and then walks away? Who fucking does that? Is that what all the guys do these days? I mean I know it’s been a hot minute for me in the sexual experience department but geesh.”
Did I do something to upset him, or is he toying with me?
“Was he not being serious because I swear to God if he put me through all that just to be an asshole, I’m going put his big…nice…lovely cock through my mother’s new shredder.”
In all seriousness, deep down, I know Emmett’s not an asshole. I’m ninety-nine percent certain he meant every word. He’s always been so great to me, but I would be lying if I denied that something has been different with him…with us…as of late. Maybe his feelings are real. Maybe they’re not, but for whatever it’s worth my cards are now laid bare on the table.
I wish I was laid bare on a table.
Ugh.
Once I stand up to grab my clothes for the day, Lola brushes up against my now chilling legs.
Meow
“Hmph! Maybe I ought to throw you in the shower with him, Lola. Then he can get the full effect of the angry wet pussy experience.”

TikTok has been a great source of marketing for several of my clients. Even for Lacey as we’ve created several before and after videos with quick tutorials. Something cool that catches the attention of her audience. Even telling viewers how she makes money from other people’s trash. Between that and the Booktok community that does a tremendous job of supporting authors of all kinds, my job has become more fun and more creative.
One of the other aspects of TikTok that I’ve grown to love and appreciate is seeing all the different recipes creators are coming up with or sharing with viewers. Not too long ago I learned a new recipe for cheesy potato soup, one for smores monkey bread, and just the other day I saw one for spicy chicken tacos that I really wanted to try. Since my day to provide dinner was coming up, I went ahead and purchased the needed ingredients so we could try a new meal.
There’s just one problem.
I haven’t spoken to Emmett all day.
Well, not since this morning and his…whatever that was in front of the bathroom.
As soon as I got dressed, I put my earbuds in and got to work, not wanting to be disturbed. I barely took a lunch break today because I didn’t want Emmett to see how frustrated and pissed I really was, though I think he noticed anyway. There was a small moment at lunch time when he walked into the kitchen area as I was walking out with a sandwich. He brushed my shoulder and tried to talk to me, but I forcefully turned away from him and walked out telling him I was busy. I’m pretty sure I heard him chuckle, which didn’t help my attitude at all.
