“What’s wrong?”

“I could’ve sworn I left a pair of pajamas here, but my drawers are empty. Maybe I threw them in my bag the last time I was here or maybe Mom gave them away.” She turns in a circle looking around her room, mumbling.

“I guess I’ll just sleep in my clothes.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. Here.” I pull off the t-shirt I’m wearing and hand it to Emily. “Now you have a nightgown.”

She gasps. “No, no, no. Emmett, you’ll be cold. I can probably borrow something of Mom’s.”

“Your mom’s asleep silly and I never sleep with a shirt on, you know that. When I’m not sleeping in the buff, I sleep in my underwear. It’s no big deal. Wear it. You’ll be way more comfortable than sleeping in your jeans.”

“Right…” She trails off and I notice she isn’t looking at me. Well, I mean she’s not looking at my face. A warm feeling shoots through me when I notice her staring at my chest as I stand here in front of her in just my jeans.

“Emily?”

“Huh?” Her eyes don’t move. It’s like she’s in a trance and I can’t snap her out of it. But that’s okay, I’m not sure I want to.

“Something wrong?” I want to chuckle at her cuteness because she’s very obviously ogling my body. It’s not like she’s never seen me naked from the waist up before. I walk around shirtless a lot. All guys do.

“Wha…nah…no,” she mumbles incoherently. “It’s…you have those…” She motions like a flight attendant showing her crew the exit signs but does a V shape in front of her. “That V thing…you have it. I uh...yeah. You have that.”

Now I can’t hold back the chuckle. She’s ogling my abs and the V in particular that points like an arrow right to my happy place and it turns me on knowing

Emily Chesney is attracted to me.

“They’re just abs, Em. Muscles. That’s all.”

Finally, she seems to snap out of it, shaking her head and clearing her throat. “Yeah well, yeah…what were we doing? Right, of course, yeah. Just muscles. I mean, they’re nice…so…” She holds up my black t-shirt, which only accentuates the pinkness of her blushing cheeks. “Thanks. I’ll uh, be right back.”

While Emily’s in the bathroom I take the time to slip out of my jeans and into bed, thanking the small bed gods for giving me more of a reason to snuggle closer to her tonight.

Maybe tonight is the night.

Maybe after all we did tonight, she realizes she feels the same way I do.

Maybe I should make a move or at least push her in the right direction. The water runs in the bathroom just across the hall and then there’s a click as she opens the bathroom door. When she walks into the bedroom it takes all my control not to let my eyes bug out of my head at how goddamn sexy Emily looks wearing my t-shirt. Good God, it’s just long enough to cover the swell of her ass but doesn’t go much further. If she were to bend over right now, I would get a magnificent show.

She rakes her fingers through her hair now hanging over her shoulders and finally glances at me. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because I’m a guy and you look sexy in my t-shirt, Babe.” I chuckle. “Now get over here so you don’t get cold.” I hold open the blankets for her as she walks over to the bed and climbs in next to me, lying down so we’re facing each other.

“Since when do you call me Babe?”

I smirk. “Since you’re my girlfriend in this house, remember?”

She playfully shoves my shoulder. “Not now, Emm. My parents aren’t sleeping in here with us.”

“Thank God for that.”

She giggles but then sighs, looking over at me, her hair splayed around her pillow.

“Thank you for doing that though. For Wes.”

I didn’t do it for Wes.

I did it because I wanted to.

“And I’m really sorry about the Chesney inquisition. I totally forgot that was Dad’s thing anytime I brought a boy home.”
