“No, not at all.” Lucas grins. “So, is this like a date?”
“Of course it’s a date.” A very handsome man comes up and smacks Lucas in the back of the head.
“Hey. I was just making sure. This loser needs to get out more,” He says, tilting his beer to Josh.
The other man takes a seat as a third man comes up to the table, his eyes dancing between Josh and I. “You brought her here?”
I recognize the men as the ones I saw at the pool table when we first came in. I think I know the third guy from high school, but I can’t be sure.
He pulls a chair from another table and squeezes his chair in between Josh and Lucas.
Josh looks around at the group of extremely handsome men and shakes his head. “Well, since these assholes can’t take a hint. This one.” He points to the man who smacked Lucas. “This is my older brother, Ethan. The fire chief. And this is Brandon. He owns The Flower Pot.”
“Hey, Sam,” he says with a hesitant smile on his face.
“Hey Brandon.” I nod my head, knowing exactly who he is now.
“You know him?” Josh turns to me.
“Yeah, we went to school together.” I look at him making a mental note to talk to Vicki and Becca about Brandon to find out if we like him now or not. If not, this might get a little awkward if this thing with Josh goes anywhere.
“How are you, Brandon?” I ask, trying to keep my feelings about him hidden.
“I’m good. It’s nice to see you back home,” he says, taking a pull from the beer he brought to the table with him.
Josh looks between us and I can tell I’m going to have to do some explaining later.
The lights dim and a slow song comes on. Josh leans in and whispers into my ear. “Would you like to dance?”
I look into his gorgeous eyes and nod. I can see them darken and I bite my lip, knowing in a minute I’m going to be pressed up against his hard body.
He stands and reaches out a hand to me. I take it and he pulls me up, lacing his fingers with mine as he leads us to the small dance floor in the middle of the room.
He pulls me close, and his spicy, woodsy scent fills my nose. I inhale, taking more of it. I love the way Josh smells. He rests his hands on my lower back just above my ass, and I wrap my arms around his neck.
“I have a confession,” he says, whispering in my ear. “I don’t like to dance, but being able to hold you close, I’m making an exception.”
I look up at him and giggle. “Well, I’m glad you made an exception for me.”
He pulls me closer and as we dance, our body’s rub against each other, I can feel my nipples hardening under my sweater and warmth pooling between my thighs. What this man does to me and he’s not even touching me sexually. I can just imagine what it will be like to have sex with him.
I rest my head against his chest and take slow breaths, trying to get that image out of my head.
“Don’t look now, but everyone’s watching,” he whispers into my ear. I let out a breath, not sure if I should be worried or excited. Okay, maybe I’m a bit of both. I enjoy being in his arms and I like the fact he’s chosen me. I pull back a bit and look up into his darkened eyes.
“Are you okay with that?” I ask, wanting to reassure myself he’s happy to be on display with me in his arms.
He looks down at me and smiles. “I’m more than okay with it. I brought you out onto the dance floor not only to hold you close, but to let them all know you’re mine.” He takes my head in his hands and lowers his mouth to mine, kissing me in front of everyone.
“There, that should seal any doubts. Although I’m sure there is going to be some gossip around town tomorrow.” We laugh and he wraps his arm back around my waist, pulling me in closer.
I rest my head on his chest listening to his heartbeat, loving how this feels, but a part of me is wondering if this is too good to be true.
