Chapter Twenty-Four
AndiewokeupwithMike wrapped around her. He draped his legs over hers, and had one arm behind her head, the other on her baby bump. Yesterday was her last day of bed-rest and she was beyond excited. This was a turning point, and she felt amazing about it. With her first trimester officially over, she had less and less chance of something going wrong. The problem was, as the days went by and she felt better, Mike grew more and more paranoid.
For the last week he never left the house, he rarely even left their bedroom. His home office was three doors down from where they slept, but he kept saying he didn't like it when he couldn't see her, so he worked on his laptop in their room instead. She understood his fears because she had her fair share, but this couldn't be good for either of them. She had hoped that once this week of bed-rest was over, he would start feeling better. To keep from arguing over every little thing, she gave into his every request. Knowing most of it was only his fears, it didn't bother her too much. She didn't even get up to use the bathroom without letting him know. They showered together with her sitting on the bench and him doing all the work, because according to him she could slip and fall. He had to have been the kindest, sweetest man she every laid her eyes on and he was driving her insane. She was one hundred percent head over heels in love with him.
Christy would stop by every day with her little one to keep Andie entertained. She was happy to have found a friend in someone like her. As she got to know her, she realized hers and Jason's perfect relationship wasn't always that way. Turns out she was a high-profile attorney with an ex from hell and gave it all up to be a mom and wife. That was something Andie would not do. The more and more her feelings grew for Mike, the easier she could see him fitting into her life. However, she felt strongly that her life still had to be her own and the only other person she would admit that to was her sister. Mike's mom had come over the day before and she kept asking questions about Andie's past work experience and if she would ever consider working for the firm. It seemed Lorna was up to something, but Andie couldn't put her finger on it. Her experience waiting tables didn't really make her a prime candidate as a security agent, so she just answered politely and didn't dig into it too much.
Andie was ready to start her day and slowly tried to extricate herself from Mike's grasp, only to find him pull her tighter to him and groan.
"Where do you think you're going?" he grumbled sleepily
"Well, first to the bathroom to shower and then to get dressed because today is my big day out." She felt his entire body stiffen.
"Remind me again why you think that's a good idea?" he said, looking at her with his disappointed face she was seeing more and more of.
"Mike, you need to go to work. Leave our room and go to the office. Jason is going to strangle you if you don't. I need to get out of this bed, and out of this house. We talked about this, I won't even be gone long. Christy, her friend Frances, and Avery will be here at 10:00. We are just going to go out for a late breakfast. I'll be back as soon as we are done." She reached to kiss the ridiculous frown off his face when she had finished reminding him for the seventeenth time what her plan was.
"Just because we talked about this doesn't mean I have to like it. Why don't I drive you guys? I'll come but not sit with you. I can get a table nearby to give you some girl time," he said with air quotes.
Exasperated, she pushed herself away from him and up from the bed, "Are we going to get into an argument over this?"
"Are you going to move in?" he responded.
"What would that have to do with us arguing over me going to breakfast? They are two completely unrelated arguments," she said, trying hard not to smile. She knew she had already decided to move in with him, she just hadn't told him yet.
"I just... I just want you here. Why do I have to keep explaining myself?" he said, running both hands through his hair and making it stand on end.
"How about this," she said, sitting on the bed next to him "I am going to go out with the girls, like we already talked about. When I get back, we will go to my apartment and start packing up some of my things to bring back here... temp-or-ar-ily." Avery had already packed almost her entire closet and brought it to her when she was on bed-rest, so she knew there wasn't much left.
"I'd rather pack everything you own, but I will take what I can get."
She laughed, kissed him long and hard, and then pulled away to run off to the bathroom.
He shouted after her, "I'm calling the midwife to make sure that sex is back on the table!"
"That's not up to her!" she laughed and yelled back at him through the closed bathroom door.
Avery arrived shortly after Andie got dressed. She was still in amazement over Mike's apartment, and Andie couldn't blame her for that. The two of them had a modest upbringing and a very simple life as children. As extravagant as the apartment was, it didn't seem to fit Mike's personality. She tried to explain that to her sister more than once.
"Andie, for real. I can't believe this is your life now. I mean, look at this view!"
"It's not my life, it's Mike's. I'm just visiting." She gave her sister a quick wink.
"I HEARD THAT!" he hollered from his office.
"GO TO WORK!" she yelled back.
Andie rolled her eyes, "Let's head upstairs to meet Christy and Frances. I think she got a driver from the firm to take us to breakfast."
Avery's eyes lit up. "One of those hotties just for us?"
"Don't get too excited, they aren't for us. Christy had some past problems with an ex, so Jason is obsessively protective of her and their daughter. She doesn't really go anywhere without someone from the security team."
"As well she shouldn't, nor should you. You just keep fighting me every step of the way," Mike said as he entered the kitchen.
Andie tried to ignore him and grabbed her purse. Mike was quick though and grabbed her by the hand, pulling her to him.
He whispered in her ear, "How do you feel? Be truthful."
