Laughing he said, "Yes my little angel, I will be your boyfriend. Honestly, I had big plans to take you out and formally ask you to be mine. But siting here with you, this is even better than some stuffy dinner."
Once they stopped laughing, he said, "There are some things about my work that we need to talk about."
Mike explained more about his role at Calvano Security and the agreement he'd made with Jason. He had a few obligations he needed to take care of out of town, but they were all quick trips. Unfortunately, the first one was a convention out of town and it was this weekend.
"Would you come with me?"
"I don't know if I can. I was planning to move into Avery's this weekend, and I have been relying on Diane for work. I'm not really in a position to say no if she calls."
"I don't want this to sound bad, but you may have noticed I do pretty well for myself. I would prefer not having you on your feet all night long waiting on tables, anyway. If you would just agree to let me take care of you, at least financially, then you wouldn't have to worry about these kinds of things."
The look on her face immediately told him that was a wrong move.
Why did he always open his big mouth? Before she could lay into him, he said, "Wait, don't even start. I take it back. You can work if you want to. I trust your judgment. I just don't want you to worry about money. We will come up with something. When will you know if you have to work?"
She looked at him with a crooked smile and realized he was learning.
"I should know by tomorrow if she needs me for an event over the weekend."
"Good. Then in the meantime, let's go to bed."
"It's 4:00 in the afternoon, and I have to work tonight."
He stood and pulled her behind him, "We aren't going to bed to sleep."
Chapter Eighteen
"Tellmeagainhowyou got two hulking hunks to move your stuff?" Avery said while she started unpacking one of Andie's boxes left in the kitchen.
"Mike strikes again! He was insisting on hiring a moving company since he had to be out of town, but I told him he was crazy. I don't even have that much stuff."
"Well, I'm not sad about the eye candy, that's for sure." She smiled toward the one called Red who she kept saying looked equal parts terrifying and delicious.
"They aren't bad, I guess."
"You guess? You guess?" Avery proclaimed while coming around the side of the island to stand directly in front of her sister. Leaning forward, she reached her hand to her forehead, "Are you sick or something? These men are gorgeous. Or is it just that you are so smitten with your new beau you can't be bothered with anyone else?"
Andie batted her hand away, "Leave me alone! No, I'm not sick. I admitted they were good-looking but... well... I mean I am having his baby so it only makes sense that I like him right?"
"Listen, from what you have told me, Mike is a great guy. I'm sure whenever you decide I'm worthy of meeting him, I will like him. With all that said, I want to be clear on something... I am always here for you and my niece or nephew. If he hurts you, then I promise you I will castrate him. Got it?"
Andie couldn't help herself, she burst into laughter at the thought of her sister who was barely five feet tall trying to attack Mike.
"Hey! Stop laughing, I'm serious!!" Avery yelled.
Her proclamation just made Andie laugh harder. Gasping for breath she sputtered out, "I know, I know... I love you, sis."
A buzzing from the counter caught her attention, and she jumped up to see who was messaging her. So far this week Andie and Mike had spent time together every day, and even though he only left the day before, she was already missing him.
Mike: This event sucks. I'd rather be with you.
Mike: Correction, I'd rather be in you...
"Mike again?" Avery said at the look on her sister's face.
"What makes you say that?" Andie asked, trying hard to conceal her smile.
"UGH! You are so annoying. Just keep rubbing all your happiness in why don't you?" Avery stalked into the back bedroom without another word.
