"Uh... I'm not sure. But it's important, I just can't remember... it's saved in my phone..." Andie was mumbling to herself while trying to come up with an excuse. She noticed the little vein in his forehead throb, showing it aggravated him that she didn't have a solid reason to leave.
Frowning, he looked at her, "Ya, that's not gonna work for me."
"What?"
"The excuses. You have nowhere to be. You just found out you are pregnant. Take a minute and process. I would do the same if I didn't have twenty guys waiting on me."
"Twenty guys? What exactly do you do?"
"I'll fill you in if you stay. But really, I can't let you leave right now. If nothing else, I have a bunch of paperwork you need to sign because I brought you up here. We have a bit of a confidentiality thing going on."
Andie could tell by the look on his face she was fighting a losing battle. "Fine. I'll sit for paperwork and when I'm done, I'm leaving, whether or not you are here."
"I'll send my mom in once she gets food," he smiled down at her.
She dropped her head into her hands.
"What's wrong, I thought you liked her?"
"Of course, I liked her. She was amazing. Until I knew she was my child's grandmother."
A stupid grin came over his face. "She will flip."
"I think I'm going to be sick," she moaned.
Panicked, he looked around and grabbed a trash can.
"I'm kidding! Hurry or I'll be long gone by the time you get back," she said as she shooed him toward the locked door.
He stood and headed out. His mind was a jumbled mess as he thought through the events of the day. A father, holy shit, he would be a dad. Mike hadn't stopped thinking about her since he left her bed. It had been the longest ten weeks of his life. He had planned to get back in touch with her, but he had only gotten back two days ago. Instead, he told himself he needed to get caught up at work and get everything in order before he went to her. The last thing he wanted was to show up on her doorstep and then need to leave again the next day. So he had been rushing to get everything done and had his mind set on finding her over the weekend.
When his mother wouldn't stop rattling on about the girl in their decoy office, he had to stop what he was doing and go deal with it. The last thing he thought was that it would be Andie. God, she looked beautiful, even more so than he remembered. She looked pale, and a bit run down, but considering she just found out she would be a mom and puked all over their lobby, it made sense she wasn't feeling one hundred percent. His little Andie was going to be a mom. The mother of his child, and he would be a Dad. Holy crap, what a morning.
"Sir."
"Sir."
"SIR!"
"Yeah, what?" he snapped at one of his guys.
"We just need you to sign off on these latest plans."
He needed to get his head in the game, or he was toast.
Shortly after approving the final plans, he went back to his office. He was bouncing with nerves and excitement when he walked down the hallway, but instead of a joyful reunion with Andie, he found his mother giving him the evil eye as he passed her. Andie was sound asleep on his couch. That bought him some time to get some other things done before he took her home.
Heading back out of his office, he turned to his mother and asked, "Did you give her the paperwork?"
"I went in as soon as I had it printed, and the poor thing was already asleep. This pregnancy must be hard on her."
"She just found out this morning, I think she's needing some time to recoup."
"This morning? And she came here to see you? Is there something I need to know?" she hopped up out of her chair and walked over to him.
"Not now, Mom."
"Michael Nathaniel Christenson, you do not talk to your mother that way!" she lectured, while wagging her finger at his chest.
