He could hear a few of his men snickering and shot them a look that could kill.
"I'm sorry. Listen, I have lots to catch you up on, but this is not the place or the time. I need to make sure Andie is okay and then head to my next meeting. Can you keep an eye on her for me and make sure she eats some lunch?"
"That depends. Is she carrying my grandchild?" she said as her eyes crinkled up with her gigantic smile.
"Seriously mom, keep your voice down!" he said rolling his eyes, "I don't know why I even asked, it's not like you wouldn't take care of her either way."
"I suppose you're right."
With that, he turned back into his office. He went to the closet and pulled out a blanket he kept there. He draped it over her, and she didn't move a muscle.
Leaning forward, he touched her arm. She roused and looked up at him, half asleep.
"Are you well, little angel?"
"Hmm?"
"I have two more meetings and then I'll take you home, okay?"
"Mmmhmmm."
She seemed to mumble an agreement, so that was good enough for him. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then walked into a disaster in his next meeting.

Chapter Ten
Therewasanothermissionthat wasn't going according to plan, and the agency they were working with wanted Mike to ship out in the morning. Normally he would be beyond happy to have been personally requested, however, with today's events there was no way he was leaving town. He still hadn't talked to Andie, and they had a lot of things to discuss. After his meeting, he headed back in his office and found her still sleeping. Apparently, she got up and tried to leave, but his wonderful little mother sat her right back down and kept her talking until she dozed off again. He couldn't help but wonder if that was normal. He remembered Jason's wife always randomly falling asleep when she was pregnant, but not like this. When it happened to Christy, it was usually late, and they were at one of their apartments. Andie had slept for hours on a couch in his office.
"Bro! I just got back from baby duty. What is this I hear about you keeping some chick in your..." Jason came to a halt seeing her on the couch. It relieved Mike, because the last thing he needed was to introduce the two of them right now. He needed to finish his damn work, get someone reliable to cover tomorrow's trip and get Andie home. To his home and in his bed.
"Shut the hell up," he whispered in anger, pushing Jason back out the way he came.
Once they were out of earshot, he turned to find his friend looking at him like he had lost his marbles.
"Is there a girl asleep in your office?"
"Yes."
"Do you want to explain to me why there is a girl asleep in your office?"
"Not really."
"Is she a civilian?"
"Yes."
"Is it her? I mean, is that Andie?"
"Ya, it's her."
"Have you lost your ever-loving mind?"
And since she was in earshot, his mother answered that one, "Yes, he has."
Shaking his head, he knew he needed to do some damage control.
"Okay, listen, both of you. Andie is here because I need to talk to her. We will leave when she wakes up and when I'm done with work. I will be very clear when I say this, so listen to me; she is off limits! No questions, no introductions, no sticking any noses in where they don't belong. I have some things to work on with her and I will catch you both up to speed as soon as we have everything figured out. Understand?"
