Page 73 of Unexpected Kisses

As we ride along, we take turns pointing out pelicans and various other birds soaring above the river or floating on its shimmering surface. Sarah shares her easy smiles with me and my mood soars with the birds. The breeze has caused some strands of hair to come loose from Sarah’s ponytail and she’s battling to keep them out of her face as her eyes sparkle in the sunshine.

She looks beautiful. I’ve thought she was beautiful from the get-go, but today, there’s a lightness about her that’s been missing. The weight of her own self-imposed safety net has been lifted and she’s more carefree than I’ve ever seen her.

With our legs working together, I take her hand and rest it on my thigh, keeping mine on top to hold hers in place. I like this. The simplicity of spending this time with her without any pressures or worries. I like it a lot. It gives me a glimpse into our future. I only hope Sarah’s seeing the same as me.

“This is fun,” Sarah says simply, mirroring my thoughts. “I should bring the kids down here and do this with them. They’d really like it.”

“We should make a day of it and include Colton, too.”

“Definitely.”

Our designated time is almost up, so we make our way back to the bike rental place to hand over the bike. Heading back to the parking lot, holding my girl’s hand in mine, I tug her around to face me once we arrive at my Jeep. I glance between her eyes, which are bright like springtime grass, and her mouth. She licks her lips and I move in slowly, waiting for her to pull away once she reads my intention, but she moves forward, meeting me halfway. My hope soars that this is the beginning of our forever.

Her warm breath brushes over my lips as we make first contact, my heart beating a heavy rhythm, and my breaths seizing in my lungs. Under the bright, warm sun, with the breeze blowing at my back, I kiss Sarah the way I’ve wanted to since the night I met her. I bring my hand up to cup her face with reverence, while I wrap my other around her waist, tugging her body snugly against mine. Her soft curves press against my hard muscle like we were always meant to be together in this way. One pass, then two, my tongue darts out for a taste; teasing and tempting. Delicious. My cupcake sighs against me and I take the opportunity to slide my tongue inside against hers. Blood rushes in my ears and to my cock. Sarah presses tighter against me, her fingers sliding into my hair as I deepen the kiss, trying to reach all the way to her soul. I need her to feel my unfettered desire for her, to understand how much I want her. That this kiss isn’t about anything other than enjoying her, connecting with her, appreciating her. As our tongues tangle and explore, our bodies press tight and our hearts pound a rapid rhythm against the other.

“Yeah, baby! Stick it to her!” shouted from a passing car rudely tears us apart.

I chuckle as I press my forehead to Sarah’s, taking pride in the fierce flush on her face. “Sorry, I got carried away.” I press a light kiss to her lips. “Actually, I’m all about honesty today. I’m not sorry I got carried away, at all.”

Sarah chuckles, her body shaking against mine. “If I’m being honest, I’m not sorry either.”

CHAPTER29

–sarah–

AJ’s phonebuzzes and when he answers it, the voice on the other end sounds panicked. He listens for a moment, then responds, “We’re on our way.” He tucks his phone away. “That was Hayley. Lisa’s parents have been in an accident and are being taken to the hospital. I need to pick up Colton.”

My heart races. “Of course.”

He links his hand with mine and quickly helps me inside his Jeep and we head to the hospital. The cab is silent, filled with tension as AJ navigates early Saturday afternoon traffic through the city. Even though he’s clearly upset and in a hurry to get to his sister and her family, he drives cautiously.

I lay my hand on his thigh. “I’m sure they’ll be okay.” I know they’re empty words because I have no idea how serious the accident was, but I need to offer some comfort.

He glances at me, his jaw tight. “They’re really good people, so I hope they are.”

We pull into the parking lot and we spot Hayley and Colton straight away. AJ parks and we both jump out quickly. Colton leaps for AJ as soon as he’s close enough, with Hayley close behind. “Unca AJ!”

“Hey, little man.” His voice comes out calm as he lands a kiss on Colton’s nose. That’s something I’ve noticed about AJ; he seems to keep his cool.

While they’re busy, I hug Hayley. “Hey. You okay?”

“Yeah. I’m worried about Lisa. She was really upset. They’re a close family, and she’s an only child.”

I nod. “Hopefully everything will be okay. Please tell her I’m thinking about her and her parents.” Hayley nods gratefully, squeezing me close. “Is there anything you need? Anything I can do?”

“Thanks. I’ll let you know if there’s anything.”

“Aunty Sarah!” Colton sings, reaching for me. I take him from AJ and he immediately wraps his little arms around my neck. I can’t believe this is the same shy boy I met three weeks ago.

“Hey, little man.” I squeeze him close and step away from AJ and Hayley so they can talk without little ears. “You’re so lucky, you get to hang out with your uncle.”

“Yeah.” His cheeks split in a wide grin. “And you, too.”

“Yeah, and me too.” I smile at him, jigging him in my arms. I tell him all about our bike ride along the river and promise that we’ll take him one day.

Colton’s booster seat is switched to AJ’s Jeep and his backpack is placed on the back seat. Hayley hugs and kisses Colton goodbye, then disappears into the hospital, leaving us in the parking lot. We work quickly to situate Colton in his booster seat, and I kiss him goodbye.

His bottom lip trembles. “I want to play with you.”
