Page 21 of Unexpected Kisses

“Fair enough.” I collect the pillow from the middle of the bed to toss it where it belongs and discover a small silicone bullet. I can’t help the smile that tugs at my lips. I read online that an orgasm helps to move the sperm up to where they’re needed, that’s why I figured we’d be doing this the regular way. I wonder if we read the same article? With Sarah’s back to me, she hasn’t noticed my discovery so I pick it up, and before I know what I’m doing I take a whiff of the device, closing my eyes to get the full impact of her scent.

Mmmm.

Shit, that probably makes me a creep!

I hand it to her and the flush that spreads across her cheeks is sexy as hell. She quickly snatches it from me, hiding her eyes as she drops it into her purse. Clearing my throat I ask, “Are you ready to go? I think we have everything.”

“Uh, sure. Thanks again.” She still hasn’t made eye contact. Interesting. I wonder whatorwho she was thinking about when she came?

I hold out my hand to help her stand, then place it just above her sexy ass to guide her to the door, collecting my bag on the way. The walk toward the elevator and the ride down to reception is made in silence. The air is thick with tension and I’m not sure how to break it or even whether I should. We approach the reception desk and the woman behind it widens her eyes as she smiles at us.

“Can I help you with anything?” she asks.

“No thanks. I’m just checking out,” Sarah responds as she slides her keycard across the desk.

The woman’s eyes skate between us and I can tell she’s working to school her expression. It must look suspect that Sarah checked in a couple of hours ago and now she’s checking out with a guy in tow.

“Was everything to your satisfaction?”

“Yes, everything was great. Would I be able to make a booking for Wednesday night, please?” Sarah glances at me, giving me a timid smile, then returns her attention to the woman behind the desk.

The woman glances between the two of us again. “Sure. Would you like the same room?”

“If I can. That would be great. Thanks.”

She taps some keys and then smiles at Sarah. “All done. We’ll see you on Wednesday.” She finishes with raised brows at both of us.

I return my hand to her lower back, and guide Sarah to the double doors, the heat of her flesh searing my palm through the thin fabric of her blouse. Once we’re outside and out of earshot of the receptionist, I burst out laughing and Sarah joins me. “I was waiting for her to tell you this establishment doesn’t rent rooms by the hour.”

Sarah’s giggles increase and she snorts, making her even more attractive. “Me too. I was so embarrassed.” She wipes tears from her eyes. “I never once considered how it would appear if I checked in and out on the same night.”

“I’m sure she sees all sorts of people and situations. It’s probably nothing out of the ordinary for her.” I try to reassure her, because even though I don’t know Sarah all that well yet, I know she’s not the type of woman to hire a room by the hour and I don’t want her to be uncomfortable.

We make our way toward Sarah’s car through the dark parking lot, Sarah still chuckling every now and then. “Sorry, once I get the giggles, I find it hard to stop sometimes.”

“No need to apologize. You’re beautiful when you let your worries go and laugh.” Damn. I probably shouldn’t have said that because she freezes in place.

“You think I’m beautiful?” Her voice is unsure, and I don’t understand why.

“Hell yeah, you’re beautiful. You’re stunning.” I shake my head. “Why are you asking as if you don’t know?”

She shrugs. “It’s been a long time since anyone outside of my family has told me that. It’s nice to be told every now and then.”

If she were mine, I’d be telling and showing her exactly how beautiful I think she is every day. She would never have any doubts. But she’s not mine and she’s not looking to be anybody’s, so I should keep my mouth shut—I don’t want to make things any more awkward between us. It’s the last thing I want to do.

She wants to have a baby, dickhead, nothing more.

CHAPTER10

–sarah–

Well, that was embarrassing. The receptionist probably thinks I’m a hooker, not that there’s anything wrong with the profession, it just couldn’t be further from the truth. Here I am trying to get pregnant and I’m not even having sex to do it.Only me!I barely refrain from palming my head.

When I opened the door to find AJ standing there after what I’d just done with thoughts of him invading every part of me, I couldn’t look him square in the eye. And then he took care of me, cleaning up so he could walk me to my car to ensure my safety. Why couldn’t I have met the guy under ordinary circumstances? Now we have this awkward connection between us, which I know can’t go any further.

He doesn’t want to be anything more than a donor.I need to remember that.

My car comes into view and my pulse speeds up. Sarah, get in your car and leave. You’ll see the guy on Wednesday night. No need to prolong the evening and make things awkward. I’m sure he’s got plenty of other things he needs to do. “Uh, thank you for walking me to my car and for tonight.” I tuck my loose hair behind my ear. “I guess I’ll see you on Wednesday. Same place, same time.” I do my best not to sound as awkward as I feel at this point.
