Page 110 of Unexpected Kisses

I step into her body and take the box from her. “Do you know what day it is?”

“Well, of course. Do you?”

“Yep. It’s Friday. I’m all good with my days now.” I was getting confused there for a while.

She lifts her hand to my cheek, cupping it gently, her eyes going soft. I lean into her touch before turning to press a kiss on her palm. “Do you realize that you should have finished your period yesterday?”

Her eyes dart back and forth and I can practically see the wheel’s turning in her head. She lifts her wide eyes to mine. “Do you think …”

I raise my brows and nod. “Yeah, I do.”

“Holy shit.” She looks at the box, covering her mouth with her palm. “What if … No, I can’t say it. I probably skipped my period because of all the stuff that’s been going on and my anxiety.” She pushes the box back toward me. “I’m too scared to take the test. What if it’s negative?”

I transfer the box to the hand holding my crutch and slide my fingers through her soft hair, tucking it carefully behind her ear. “But what if it’s positive?” I whisper around the lump in my throat.

She bites her bottom lip, taking a moment to think about it. “Ihavebeen sick and my boobs have been super sensitive.” She reaches down to take the box from me, pushing her shoulders back and her beautiful tits out. “I’ll take the test. Will you take it with me?”

“I wouldn’t be anywhere else.” She spins on her heel and rushes toward our bathroom, and I follow behind as quickly as I can. “Hang on. I’ll need to pee on the stick first. Wait out there.” She points at our bedroom.

“I was wondering how long it would take you to realize you needed to pee first.” I chuckle and then sit on the edge of our bed to wait.

After a few moments, I hear the toilet flush and the water run, so I climb to my feet to join Sarah in the bathroom. She spins as I open the door. “Our lives could change in a couple of minutes,” she whispers with eyes full of hope. God, I hope the test is positive. I’ll feel so shitty if I’ve given her hope where there is none.

With my heart pounding, I lean my hip against the vanity, using only one crutch to hold me up and pull Sarah in close. “My life changed the night we shared a booth in the club.” Her body softens against mine. “There was no going back for me once you agreed to let me be your donor. I just had to wait patiently for you to catch up.”

Sarah brings her hands up to my pecs, resting them there as her eyes flick between mine. “I’m sorry I was so blinded by my plans and I was too scared to take the leap. I wasted so much time. I love you so much, AJ.”

“Love you, too, Cupcake. And it doesn’t matter because we’re together now.” I press a kiss to her lips and drop my eyes to the white stick. My heart bursts with happiness as my smile instantly spreads and I look back at Sarah’s face. “And you’re stuck with me forever.”

Her eyes widen and snap down to the test and the two pink lines. “Holy shit! We’re pregnant.” She jumps up and down, then realizes she’s jostling me and freezes in place. “Shit, sorry. Oh my God! We’re pregnant.” She slams her lips onto mine and I bring my hand to the back of her head, grasping the silky strands at the base of her scalp to tilt her where I want her, deepening our kiss. Our tongues unite and dance with one another in celebration. Tasting and teasing. Teeth clashing and breaths mingling. I want to share these moments endlessly with her.

With the need to draw breath, we reluctantly pull apart, and I press a few soft kisses to her swollen lips. I drop my forehead to Sarah’s. Our dazed eyes find each other, our smiles matching. “We’re gonna be parents, Cupcake.” She nods against me with an enormous grin and I drop my hands to cup her stomach with affection. I can’t wait until she’s round with our baby. Our baby.

We did it. We fucking did it!

“We are.” She covers my hands and gives me the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. Her eyes are sparkling with delight, and she’s never looked more beautiful to me than in this moment.

CHAPTER48

–sarah–

I’m literally floatingon a cloud as I carry our dinner upstairs to the deck. With only a month until winter, the evenings are cool, so AJ has turned on the outdoor heater and drawn the clear blinds to keep the area cozy. His smile is instant the moment I breach the doorway with a delicious-smelling dish in each hand. I love this space up here, but what I love more is that AJ comes with it.

“This smells divine. I think I’ll keep you around since you’re such a good cook.”

“Yeah? And here I thought it was because of my super sperm.” He winks as he takes his plate of chicken casserole from me, placing it in front of him, while I chuckle.

“Well, that too.” I press my lips to his cheek as I sit beside him and take my first bite. Flavors explode on my tongue, matching the deliciousness of the aroma. “Mmmhm. So good.” I quickly scoop up some more, ready to shovel it in as soon as I swallow the first forkful.

AJ nods. “Not too bad.” He swallows his food. “You have your volunteer shift tomorrow. Will Mel be working?”

“Yeah.”

“You gonna tell her?” Mel’s been incredibly supportive through all of this, she should be the first person I share our news with, but it feels wrong not to share it with my family first.

“We probably need to get it confirmed officially first. It could be a false positive.” I still can’t believe the tests were positive. Yeah, tests. I had to do both of the tests that came in the box. I didn’t trust the first one was accurate. After all of these months. If I am pregnant, I’d only be barely pregnant because I got my period last month, even though it was really light. I shrug. “I want to be sure.”

AJ reaches across and takes my hand. His warm grip is sure and strong, soothing as he rubs his thumb across my knuckles. “I understand. But I’m convinced the tests are accurate. Let’s book a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible so we can share the news.”
