“I am your assistant, sir, and I will do anything and everything that I can. I mean, do you want me to assist Dominic and Brandon as well? Is there anything they need?”
His eyes narrowed as he stared at me. “And what does that mean?”
“I don’t know, sir. I’m just asking if your other guests need anything. Pascal wanted some champagne, but she’ll get some at the party. I was wondering if Dominic or Brandon wanted anything. They are your guests as well, correct?”
“Molly, I don’t know what you are intimating here, but if you think that you’re…”
“I don’t think anything, sir.”
I glared at him. He pressed his lips together and shook his head. I watched his eyes flutter up and down my body. “You look fucking hot. You know that, right?”
“I don’t know if that’s an appropriate comment to make, Mr. Covington.”
“I regret letting you sleep in the same room as Poppy,” he said, shaking his head. “Because tonight I want you all to myself.”
“Oh well. Unfortunately, that’s not going to be possible, Mr. Covington, because I’m sharing a room with my best friend and…”
“And what?” he said. “What if she hooks up with Dominic?”
“That’s not going to happen.” I shook my head. “I know he’s your friend, but he’s a pig.”
Travis started laughing then. “I mean, he is my friend and he is a pig, and I do agree that it would probably be smart of Poppy not to hook up with him.”
“What’s up with your friend Brandon, though?” I said. “He wasn’t very polite.”
“Oh. He’s not someone who…” He paused. “Wait, why are you asking?”
“Just because you introduced me to him, and he barely looked at me or Poppy. Is he on the spectrum or something?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “He just is not really a party person. He keeps to himself. He has a very deep personality.”
“Okay, and that stops him from being polite?”
He shrugged. “He will probably loosen up when we get to the party. He has a lot on his mind right now.”
“Okay then. I mean, I don’t really care. I just thought it was really rude of him that you introduced us and he didn’t even hold out a hand or really make eye contact. It’s fine.”
“Do you want him to be more interested in you or something?”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m just…” I shrugged. “It doesn’t matter.”
Poppy was walking ahead of me. She stopped and looked back at me. “We’re going to sit in the same car together, right, Molly?”
“Of course,” I said, smiling. “I wouldn’t leave you to the devils that are part of this group.”
I looked up at Travis, and he chuckled. “Don’t let them hear you saying that, or they’ll expect me to fire you.”
“Well, are you thinking about it?” I asked him, tilting my head to the side.
“Not yet,” he said, smiling, “but who knows what the future may hold?”
“Indeed, Mr. Covington, who knows?”
I nodded, and he licked his lips. He strode past me toward one of the drivers, and I stepped back with Poppy.
“He’s going to drive me absolutely crazy. You know that, right?”
“Um, I think he’s already driving you crazy,” Poppy said, smiling at me. “And you know I like to keep it honest.”
