“At least she spoke to you,” she tells me.

“I think you’ve won favorite girlfriend, so I wouldn’t worry about it.” I look over at Aiden's dad who is sitting next to Lee, and he leans forward and takes my hand in his.

“I knew my son loved you the day at the charity.” He gives my hand a pat, and we all get back to listening to Aiden and his mum fighting. I see David has come back to the living room, and I look over at him as he raises his whiskey glass at me, and I smile. I never thought I would like David, but he has Aiden’s back all the time.

“So both my sons have broken my heart today.” She looks between them both, and Lee walks over to Aiden. Right now, they both need each other's support.

“You want some water?” Zhi asks, and I give her a nod. She goes to get up, but stops when Aiden’s dad tells us he will get it.

“How have we broken your heart? We have both found the women we love, and you’re about to be a grandmother. I’m a little confused about it,” Lee asks, and Aiden adds his own point.

“And you have both your sons back in the same country.”

“Lee, once I get to know”—she looks over at us, then back to them—“I forgot her name. I might even like her, and be happy, but, Aiden, she is a child-”

“You don’t even know her-”

“I don’t even want to know how much younger she is than you.” She glances over her shoulder, and I smile because I think it’s best I keep my mouth shut.

“Here you go, sweetheart.” I turn to Aiden’s dad and smile.

“Thank you. My name is Saylor, by the way. Aiden looks like you, unless you hate me too, then I’m going to say he's adopted instead.”

He starts laughing, loud enough to make everyone in the room turn to face us. “You make my son smile. I don’t care about anything else. Don’t care about your age, and I know he didn’t pay you anything. I don’t care if my wife hates you. You’re giving us a grandbaby, and you’re making my son smile and live a life outside the office. I can’t ask for more.”

“Then he looks as handsome as his dad.” I turn back to Aiden and Lee when Aiden shouts loud enough to make everyone jump.

“I’m not going to stand here and listen to you and your friends saying horrible things about the woman I love. Mother, you don’t have to like Saylor, but I love her, and that’s all that matters.” Aiden walks over to me and puts his hand out. “We’re going home. The company in this house is not to my standards.”

“We’re not to your standards? You’re sleeping with a-”

Before Bruce can finish his sentence, Aiden spins around and punches him in the face, and I smile, because my man protected me and that might just be the sexiest thing to happen to me.

“Dad, we will have to have lunch for the three of us.” Aiden takes my hand and helps me stand up, then pulls me closer to him.

“I’ll call you tomorrow.” His dad stands up and hugs Aiden. “Congratulations, son. I’m so excited to meet the addition, and you will have to tell me when I will meet the little one.” He pats Aiden’s back a few times, and it makes me so happy to see his dad can’t wait for this.

“I will tell you everything,” Aiden tells him, then his dad walks over to Lee and Zhi.

“So nice to meet you, Zhi. We will have to have you over again, just us next time.”

“I would love to,” she replies, and Lee gives his dad a hug.

Aiden says bye to his dad, and without saying another word to anyone else, we leave the house and wait by the car for everyone else to come out. David is the first to leave, and he walks over to us.

“Are we pulling out of the event? I don’t want to make a move until you’ve slept on it.” David pulls out his phone when it beeps and quickly taps a reply, then puts his phone away. “Nothing to worry about.” He answers Aiden’s unasked question.

“I suppose an email will be sent to me soon.” David doesn’t reply, and I lean into Aiden, just wanting to be close to him. “I will let you know in the morning about the event.”

They talk for a moment longer about work, and I look over at Lee and Zhi walking over to us.

“That was fun,” Zhi says, and I nod to agree with her.

“She will come around. Dad will talk to her.” I feel Aiden’s arm around my shoulder and notice David has left. My phone starts ringing in my pocket, and my body tenses up, because my night might have just been cut short.

“Hello,” I answer the call, walking away from Aiden. “Is everything okay, Andi?”

“Yes... No. I think you have to find someone else to help Hayle-”
