“Please, Hayley. I hate fighting with you,” I say calmly, putting my hand out with her tablets.
“I hate fighting too.” Giving me a hug, she asks, “You will come with me, won’t you?”
“Promise, as soon as we have finished packing.” She gives me a smile and takes the mediation from me.
“You want me to stay for a bit?”
“Yes, you can tell me some stories about mum.” She walks over to her bed. I hate talking about my mother, but if she keeps her home, I will bite my tongue.
Two hours it took me to finally get Hayley to go to sleep. My head is hurting so much right now, even though I told her about mum, she still wanted to fight with me about it. Sometimes I get so tired with Hayley, then I’m too tired to do anything else.
Aiden called me a few times, but I just wasn’t in the mood to talk to him, not after fighting with Hayley. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to talk to him, I just didn’t have the energy to talk at all.
Coming down the stairs I look over at Anika and Jason, but then I look around as I hear Aiden’s voice. Jason points to the phone that Anika has on speaker.
“Yes, Mr. Kane, but-”
“Hold on... next time you bring me the wrong fucking number sheets, you can find a new job,” he shouts to someone in the background.
Wow, someone is in a bad mood. I look over at Jason trying not to laugh. “Anika, David should be there soon,” he adds, and like on cue, there is a knock on the door.
“He’s here, Mr. Kane.” Jason walks over the door, and I look at the man who calls him a hundred times a day.
He looks the same age as Aiden, just a tad smaller in height, but I can easily say he's a good-looking guy.
“Why can’t you people not do a simple fucking job, one of you fucked up, and I’m more than happy to fire you all.” Aiden is shouting again, and Anika’s eyes widen, glad she isn’t on the other end of the tirade. “But I’m not, you make my fucking money back. Get out of my office!”
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” I comment loud enough for him to hear, then smile at Anika and Jason. Anika glares at me, trying to cover her amusement.
“Oh, she can talk. Anika, tell your friend to answer her fucking phone. David has what you need.” The line goes dead, and I look over at David walking over to Anika.
My phone starts ringing not even a minute later. “You should answer that.” David turns around, making me look up at him.
“The last I checked, I don’t work for him,” I tell him, but still, I answer the phone. I mean, he sounds annoyed, so best not to upset him further. “Hello.” I answer simply, expentantly.
“So you use me for sex, then leave.”
“Well, I thought I would have some fun, and I did.” I glance over my shoulder at the three of them looking through some papers, or Jason, pretending to.
“Now that I have to work all day, I will pick you up for breakfast at eight.” I hear some tapping in the background. “If I don’t hear anything from you, I’ll see you then.” The line goes dead, and I stare at the phone, shaking my head in awe at this man, thinking he can tell me what to do.
Walking over to the kitchen to get some coffee, I see them discussing the apps that Anika is working on.
“I will work hard.” Anika gathers all the papers together.
Leaning on the counter, I look at David watching me. “Nice to meet you,” I say, breaking the silence between us.
“I think we will be seeing more of each other.” Narrowing my eyebrows together, I roll my eyes, making him laugh a little. “You thought it was a one nighter, and that’s where you were wrong. See you around.” Giving me a wink, he leaves.
Staring into space, I think about Aiden. It was a one-night stand. I can’t have anything with him, but I am young and can have some fun for a while. I keep fighting myself and putting things into a pros and cons list. Con - Age difference. Pro - Good kisser, amazing sex, hard worker, doesn’t seem like he wants anything serious.
Well, it looks like the pros win. Enjoy sex, be free, and live a little.
Chapter Six
Aiden
“What time are you leaving?” David walks into the office. “You know you’ve got dinner with your parents, and the Adams,” he says with humour in his tone.
