Allison’s voice was so soft she thought she had imagined it for a moment, but then she opened her eyes. Without thinking, Lisandra pulled her hands from Ricardo’s and threw her arms around Allison’s neck, pulling her up from the bed and squeezing her tight.

Allison laughed and patted her on the back. “It’s a good thing I’m a vampire now. If I was still human, I’m pretty sure I’d have a few broken ribs right now.”

Lisandra pulled back. “Oh shit. Sorry. I just—”

“She was worried,” Ricardo said.

He squeezed her shoulder, and she smiled at him. “You saved her. Thank you.”

“Yeah,” Allison tilted her chin. “Thanks for not letting me die out there. I would have been pissed if I died because of one of those assholes. I know what happened to Melina, but what about that dickhead, Jameson?”

“He is gone, also,” Ricardo answered, and Lisandra was thankful. She’d done what she had to do to make sure Jameson couldn’t hurt any of them again, but she didn’t want to spend a lot of time talking about it. She’d really let go of her humanity in that fight, and even if she would do it again to keep them all safe, a part of her still struggled with it all.

She focused back on Allison, who was moving to get off the bed. “You’re not mad?” she asked.

Allison tilted her head. “Mad? What would I be mad about?”

Lisandra frowned. “You didn’t want to become a vampire. You wanted a chance at a family. Kids.”

Allison looked at Ricardo, then back to her and smiled. “You are my family. You and Ricardo. As for kids, I said I might want children.” She shrugged. “If I find myself feeling a drive for children in the future, well, I’ll cross that bridge when it gets here. Right now, I’m just happy to be alive. It’s a hell of a lot better than the alternative.” She stood up and rolled her shoulders, then held her hands out in front of her and looked at them while she flexed her fingers. “And I’ve got to be honest. If I had known I would feel this good, I might have asked you to change me a lot sooner.”

She winked and Lisandra busted out laughing and fell back into Ricardo’s arms.

“I am feeling a bit of that crazy thirst you told me about.” Allison rubbed her throat. “You didn’t describe that well, at all, by the way, but I guess every good thing has to have something to even it out. Now Ricardo was right. You need to get some sleep. You look terrible.” Lisandra narrowed her eyes at her, and Allison quickly pointed both fingers towards the door. “I’ll be at the fridge, sampling the different blood types to see if I have a favorite. I’m thinking AB positive will be right up my ally.”

Allison darted out of the room, heading towards the kitchen and Ricardo laughed. Lisandra turned around to look at him and smiled. “Are you laughing because she said I look terrible?” She put her hands on her hips and pursed her lips at him.

He leaned in and kissed her pursed lips with a smile. “No. You could never look anything less than beautiful. I’m laughing because your friend woke up her first day as a vampire and took off out of here like she’s been feeding on blood her whole life. I think we are going to have a mess on our hands.”

“With her?” Lisandra pointed over her shoulder. “Definitely. She was a pain in the ass before. Now, that is only going to be amplified.”

“I heard that,” Allison yelled from the kitchen.

They both laughed, then Ricardo stood from the bed and bent down, lifting her into his arms.

“Now, you really do need to get some rest,” he said.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and laid her head against his chest and yawned. “Yeah. I think a nap sounds like a good idea.” Once her eyes closed, and all she felt was the warmth of him wrapped around her, she felt herself being claimed by sleep before they even made it to their bed.

Whenshe woke up, she was still in Ricardo’s arms. They were in their bed, but he was sitting in the center with his back against the headboard, and he was still holding her in his arms just as he had been when she fell asleep while he carried her to their room. She didn’t move for a moment, content to watch him sleep. His head was tilted back slightly, resting against the headboard. It was one of those cushioned headboards, instead of wood or something hard, but it still couldn’t have been that comfortable. Still, even while he slept there was this slight tilt to his lips—a smile.

She didn’t want to wake him, but the urge to touch him was strong, so she gently placed her hand against his face and let her thumb rest against his lips. His smile deepened, almost as if he could sense her touch even in his sleep. She wanted to kiss him. Honestly, pressed against his hard body, she wanted to do a lot more than kiss him, but she could wait until he woke up. They had both had a long week. She couldn’t imagine the pain he must have gone through trying to find her.

Slowly, she moved in closer to his face, moving her eyes between his mouth and his eyes, checking to make sure she hadn’t woken him. The kiss she pressed against his lips was so soft it could have been mistaken for a light breeze across his skin, but the things it did to her body were so much more than light. With that simple kiss her body heated up, and her un-beating heart did that thing where it felt like it would race right out of her chest, just like it did every time they kissed. Not wanting to wake him, she started to pull back, but strong hands slid up her back, and one continued into the back of her hair and pulled her in close.

“Mmm,” he groaned against her lips. “I wasn’t done kissing you.”

She smiled. “I think I was the one kissing you.”

“Mmm, yes,” he agreed. “It’s my turn now.”

He crushed his mouth to hers, and she moaned into his mouth. She could feel the kiss all over her body, like an intense tingling sensation taking over every inch of her skin. She was never going to get used to how just a kiss from him set her body on fire. Wanting to get closer to him, she quickly shifted her body, moving until she was resting with her knees on either side of his hips, and she straddled his waist. He moved his hands down her back to her waist and gripped her hips, pulling her in even closer.

When he rotated his hips and his erection caressed her through their clothing, it sent electric sparks through her core, and she threw her head back and rocked her hips against him. “Ahh!”

He started pulling up on her shirt. “I need you out of these clothes. Now.”
