“You’re in pain!” I say, releasing him at once.
“Stupid fucking ribs!” he shouts, kicking his leg. The trousers pooled around his ankles disbalance him, making him stumble forward.
Pure instincts help me get to my feet in time to protect him from stumbling further and faceplanting on the bathroom floor.
“For fuck’s sake!” he shouts as I hold onto him. “Stupid leg won’t even let me stand!”
“Come on, sexy guy,” I say, leading him to the bathtub.
“I don’t want a bath,” he moans with a pout.
“Fine. Let me put you to bed.”
He rolls his eyes. “Yeah, like that’d help.”
I’m absolutely confounded by his confidence. He doesn’t feel an ounce of embarrassment despite being stark naked before me. I secretly wish some of his omega confidence would rub off me too.
“What do you want to do, then?” I ask.
He scoffs. “Like I can do whatever I want.” Groaning in pain, he steps into the bath and slowly settles himself in the water. “Ooh. This water feels amazing.”
Shaking my head, I sprinkle in more bath salts.
“Ahh, this is nice,” he says, closing his eyes as the salts effervesce and bubble around him.
Julian’s mood swings are giving me whiplash but I swallow all my complaints. Not only is he in a lot of pain, but there’s also nothing to distract him from it.
There’s only so much TV he can watch or books he can read in a day without getting bored. I hate that I couldn’t even pleasure him a little.
Callahan is going to pay for these missed moments as well, I silently vow to myself.
Julian’s expression grows somber. He’s gone back to thinking about his injuries.
“Hey, mind if I drop this in now?” I ask, holding a bright pink bath bomb in my hand. It’s the only thing I have to distract him right now.
“The berry blast,” he says with a sage nod. “One of my favorites. It’s all stars and glitter and a complete pain-in-the-ass to clean up later.”
“Perfect!”
I drop the bomb into the water and watch it disintegrate in a whirlpool of colored bubbles and glitter. A smile finally blossoms on his face, relieving some of the tightness in my chest.
Things are tough right now but someday soon, Julianwillget better. His injuries won’t hinder him from doing what he wants.
When that day arrives, I’ll make it up to him and give him everything he wants.

Raiden
This past week has been so hectic, I barely got a chance to come home. Most nights, I caught a few hours of sleep in my office cubicle. The only times I saw Caleb and Raiden were during meetings.
They’re also following the same merciless routine as me. It’s rare for us to go home and spend time with Iris and Julian.
I miss them terribly. My only consolation is reading the texts they send me throughout the day.
Tonight’s the first night in a series of long days that I’ve been able to return home knowing I won’t have to rush out at the crack of dawn.
I breathe in the chilly night air as I aimlessly walk through the grounds. It feels good to stretch my legs after being cooped in my office cubicle the whole day.
