More than anything, I miss sleeping in a proper bed.
A stupid grin comes onto my lips as I think of the simple pleasure.
I’m also looking forward to indulging in a proper breakfast cooked by Iris. Warmth surges through me the moment I think of her.
Iris has made it amazingly easy for us to go about our days without having to constantly worry about Julian. His injuries aren’t fatal but his injured leg makes it difficult for him to move around.
Iris’s presence eases our worries. She makes him happy and takes better care of him than anyone of us could on our own.
It’s hard not to feel a little jealous of Julian. He gets to have her to himself all day long.
The jerk doesn’t even hold back from showing off the things they do together. His Instagram is full of photos of them playing video games, watching movies, or simply hanging out. He makes sure to snap pictures at every meal time, showing off the dishes Iris cooked for him.
I remember a time when Julian would stay mad for days when all of us were away. Nowadays, he welcomes us with a cheerful grin no matter when we return home.
My fingers fiddle with the collar button on my shirt. A sigh escapes me as a gap opens up, allowing me to breathe better. I sniff at the cold air, unconsciously hoping to catch a whiff of Iris’s intoxicating perfume.
I’m looking forward to spending some time with both my mates tomorrow morning. It’s been too long since I had the opportunity to relax and unwind.
I almost smile from the anticipation bubbling up inside me when I hear the sound of running feet. My senses heighten, alerting me to a new presence.
A slight figure in dark clothes comes into my view. A lowered hood covers his face as he steadily approaches me.
I don’t think the stranger is aware of my presence. Shifting against a tree, I watch as he passes me by.
A glint of gold on long, flowing strands catches my eye. It’s only after the figure has run past me that I realize it’s Iris.
Warmth floods my chest. A grin comes onto my lips as I prowl after her.
Iris comes to a sudden halt. Turning around, she jumps into the air and kicks out at me.
A breathless groan escapes me as I stumble back from the force of her sudden, powerful attack.
“Raiden?” she calls out in an uncertain voice.
“Yeah,” I mutter, groaning and massaging the sore spot on my chest.
Rushing forward, she stares up at me with wide, horrified eyes. “I’m so sorry,” she says in a panicked tone. “I had no idea it was you.”
Her hand brushes over mine, lighting a spark on my skin. “Don’t worry about it,” I say, wrapping my fingers over her hand. “I’ll be fine.”
She shakes her head. “It must’ve hurt,” she moans. “I didn’t hold back.”
Moonlight falls into her eyes, turning the emerald-green into gleaming silver. An apologetic expression mars her pretty face, making me want to reach out and smooth the frown on her luscious lips.
Wrapping my arm around her, I pull her closer to me and capture her lips. A squeak escapes her but she melts against me, allowing me to deepen the kiss.
Heat sings in my veins, driving away the chill of the night as I thoroughly taste her sweet mouth. Little moans escape her, urging me to keep kissing her.
She’s still scared, the thought crosses my mind despite the haze of lust clouding my senses. Iris’s reaction was too violent to be ignored. I hate that she doesn’t feel safe enough in our own home.
My inner wolf growls out at that.
A small gasp escapes her as I suddenly break the kiss and stare into her dazed eyes. “What are you doing here at this time of night?” I ask her.
“I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d come out and train.” The glazed look in her eyes is slowly lifting. A grim look descends into her eyes as she steps away from me.
“What about you? What are you doing here instead of being inside? It’s so cold out here,” she says, blowing on her hands. “Why don’t you head back inside? There’s lots of food in the fridge, so you can have something to eat before going to bed.”
