“I thought you were a dream,” I say as tears splash down my cheeks. “I thought I’m still trapped in a nightmare.”

“Sshh, it’s okay now. You’re safe.”

Breaking away from him, I gaze at his face, making sure he’s really here.

Moving closer, I press my lips against his and wrap my arms around his neck.

A part of me is scandalized at my hunger. This is the very first time I’m kissing Raiden. Instead of making the moment a sweet one, I am turning myself into a desperate woman, kissing him like my life depends on it.

His arms tighten around me. He loses his initial hesitation and slides a hand along my neck, tilting my face to the side so he can get better access to my mouth.

A moan escapes me as his tongue sweeps over mine. Delicious heat spreads through me, warming me to the core.

Using all my strength, I try pulling him down on the bed.

Chuckles escape Raiden as he breathes hard. “Iris, slow down,” he says, his lips moving against my neck. “We’re at a clinic.”

“I don’t care,” I say, capturing his lips for another taste.

He breaks apart, his eyes glowing with dark desire. “Dr. Lawson will kick my ass if she finds out. The woman’s an alpha and a tough nut.”

A giggle escapes me. “She scares you.”

He grins and scratches the back of his head. “Sort of...yeah.”

The sound of hard heels hitting the floor approaches us. Looking around him, I spot Dr. Lawson approaching the bed.

“What’re you doing, Alpha Solveig?” Dr. Lawson says with a horrified look. “The patient has woken up after two days. Can you keep your paws to yourself for a minute?”

Raiden makes an apologetic face which makes me chuckle.

“I’m glad to see you smiling,” Dr. Lawson says, coming forward.

“He’s here,” I say, looking up at Raiden. “I’m no longer with...” I almost say Callahan’s name but pause. There’s so much that needs to be said about the asshole but this isn’t the right moment.

“Yes?” the doctor urges. “Who did this to you?”

“Raiden and the others will take care of it,” I say, not meeting her gaze.

“We will,” Raiden says with a nod.

“Did you tell her not to say a word about the incident?” The alpha doctor focuses her dominance-heavy gaze on Raiden.

“Of course, not,” says Raiden. “We barely had a minute together.”

Dr. Lawson gives him a severe, untrusting look.

“Two days have already passed?” I ask, trying to diffuse the tension between them.

“Yeah,” says Dr. Lawson, turning her attention back on me. “Your mate hasn’t left the building since the moment he brought you here. He hasn’t slept or eaten while you were recuperating.” She lets out a heavy sigh. “You have one relentless, stubborn mate, Iris. I was afraid I’d have another patient on my hand.”

My head whips up toward Raiden. It’s only now that I’m noticing the black circles under his eyes as well as the dark shadow covering his chin and jaws.

My heart squeezes painfully. I can’t believe he’s been here all this time. It’s almost unimaginable to think someone could care about me so much.

“You haven’t eaten?” I say as tears sting my eyes.

“I wasn’t hungry,” he says with a grin that just breaks my heart.
