Chapter 13
Garrett
Hewaspacingbackand forth in the bedroom at the end of the bed. His grandmother had long since given up trying to get him to sit down and had left.
He wasn’t having it.
He wasn’t going to rest till she was awake, and he knew she was okay.
Why the fuck had he let her do this.
Roberts better be careful because the next time he saw the motherfucker, he was going to bury him.
“Stop pacing.” He jerked at her sweet voice, his head whipping in her direction so fast he almost gave himself a kink.
“Mercy!” he growled, taking two large steps to the side of the bed and grabbing her hand, holding it to his lips and closing his eyes.
“God, little one, you scared me half to death.”
His lungs burned, and it felt as if he couldn’t breathe.
“I’m okay.”
“You are never doing that again,” he choked out, sliding into bed and pulling her into his lap. He didn’t care if he should or should not, he needed to hold her. He needed her in his arms.
She didn’t say anything, but he got the feeling that she was just letting him have his moment. He respected her for wanting to help, but watching her faint in his arms, that was an experience he never wanted to relive.
“She was a seer,” she whispered after a moment, and he blinked.
“Say again?” He tilted his head to look at her.
“She looked right at me and told me to save her. She knew she was going to die.” Something, some memory of something that he knew he should remember, slid through his mind, and he frowned. She paused, her eyes widening as he sat there frozen, but something was eating at him.
“What’s the matter?” she asked, sitting up slightly.
“She said save her?” He stared out the window, working those words over in his mind.
“Yes.”
Fuck, what was that?
“Those exact words. Save. Her.”
“Um… yeah.” Now she was frowning.
“I’m calling Roberts,” he muttered. He just couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but something was wrong.
“Was she the only victim that they found?” she asked as he picked up his phone from the hospital table.
“Yeah.” His grandmother walked in right then, her smile sliding off her face as she read the room.
“What…” She stopped as Garrett held up his hand.
“Hey. We need to….” But Roberts interrupted him.
“I’m walking up your front steps now.” Roberts’ tone was brusque and biting before he hung up and a second later, he heard the front door open.
“Everything okay?” Eleanor asked, giving him a look.
