“Mine’s all gone.”
He sighs heavily and takes another sip, handing it over to let me have the rest. I grin and he shakes his head in annoyance, but I don’t miss the teeny little smile there that tells me he doesn’t mind sharing.
Mark catches up to us and squeezes Kade’s shoulders from behind, still excited about all the money he won the other night thanks to my brother and his crazy temper. I zone out when he starts talking and sip my new coffee, rounding the corner to find Austin and Parker talking to Jasper next to his locker. I’m not sure if Jasper has any real friends yet, but even though those two boys look like sweethearts next to Kade and Mark, they’re not the best friends for him to have.
They’d beat the shit out of him if they knew he prefers dick over pussy.
“How long have they been brothers?” he asks them, leaning his shoulder against the wall with his back to us.
“I don’t know, since they were three or four, I think,” Parker guesses. “Kade’s dad adopted Nicky and Nicky’s mom adopted Kade after they got married.”
“So, they’re just one big happy family, huh?” Jasper mutters, almost smiling to himself as he sips whatever’s in that to-go cup he’s holding.
“Not anymore.” Austin shakes his head, distractedly looking down at the phone in his hands. “Their mom was attacked and killed in her own kitchen a few years ago. Their dad was at work and Kade and Nicky were asleep upstairs.”
“Who killed her?”
“No one knows. They never caught him.”
“For real?”
“Yeah, but I wouldn’t get caught asking about it if I were you,” Parker warns, making him frown.
“Why not?”
“Because Kade—”
Before he can finish, Austin jabs his elbow into his ribs and Parker grunts, quickly snapping his mouth shut when he realizes we’re standing right beside him. An awkward silence follows and I chew the inside of my cheek, looking over to find Kade staring directly at Jasper. His face is void of any real emotion, but I don’t miss the small tick in his jaw or the way he inches closer to me, so discreetly you’d have to be looking for it to see it.
I’m pretty sure Jasper is looking for it, though.
The second bell rings and he finally takes the hint, smiling to himself again while he turns around to head into the class he and I share together. As soon as the others walk away, Jasper winks at me over his shoulder and Kade reacts without thinking, glaring down at me when I jump in front of him to block his path. My chest bumps his and I cling to his hoodie at his hips, holding him back with as much strength as I can muster.
“Kade, stop it,” I hiss, terrified he’s about to get himself expelled and leave me here all by myself. “Please, just walk away.”
His nostrils flare and he looks around, checking to make sure no one’s lingering in the hall, then he wraps his big hand around my throat and pushes me back against the wall beside the door.
“Jesus, what are y—”
“Don’t sit next to him,” he orders, trapping me here with his hips and his eyes, his other arm propped up on the wall above my head.
“But that’s my assigned seat,” I argue, struggling not to moan with his hard body pressed right up against mine. “I can’t just sit wherever I want, Kade.”
“No, but you’ll do it anyway,” he informs me, leaning over to tease my ear with his mouth. “You’ll do whatever I tell you to do. Won’t you, baby brother?”
God fucking damn him.
I nod once and he releases his grip on me, stepping back to allow me to walk into my class. I take a breath and force myself to move, avoiding any and all eye contact while I make my way to the empty desk in the back corner by the window. Jasper looks up when I pass him, frowning when he realizes I’m not taking my usual seat, but he doesn’t say anything about it. I drop my ass down and pull my notebook from my bag, peeking up through my lashes to find Kade leaning back against the door frame, smirking at me with his hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans, the fucker. Satisfied he’s manipulated me into submission, he leaves to go to his own class, and that’s when Jasper glances at me over his shoulder, hitting me with a knowing look that makes me nervous as hell.
Fuck, this guy.
Luckily for me, the teacher doesn’t call me out for switching seats without permission or reason, but I’m still on edge for the entire hour, worried she’s about to notice and tell me to move back to my own desk. She doesn’t do that, but the lesson still drags on and on, the same way it always does when I’m away from Kade for too long. As soon as the bell finally rings, I stand up and shove my stuff back into my bag, tensing when Jasper appears in front of me and perches his ass on the edge of my desk.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” I mutter, rolling my eyes when he hits me with that stupid look again. “What?”
“What?” he asks, his tone laced with an innocence that doesn’t suit him.
